Little India Riots: Govt says "isolated incident" but so kiasu

Just doesnt jive.

We are told that

1. the riot was caused by an isolated incident due to a fatal accident
2. the rest of the majority are rational, sane and well-behaved
3. there are no labour girevances that would have caused it

then why is the govt

1. banning alcohol?
2. asking FW to stay in their dorms?
3. discouraging them from going to Little India?

Well, imho, the govt finally realises that when crowds are allowed to congregate in humongous numbers, all it takes is some agent provocateur to start

1. a race riot
2. a violent protest against the govt over workers' grievances (a la PRC workers)
3. a local vs FW riot

That is why they have awakened and are very afraid they cannot control the situation next time.

Remember this is the same PAP govt with a PM whose father branded and framed Devan Nair as an alcoholic and consigned him to a sanatorium and AA. DN like most of us can togo without falling drunk. LKY himself is a beer boozer. Yet suddenly Devan Nair was a hopeless drunk.

first thing he should ban is

1) cowardice in SPF (hiding in ambulance, sprinting away with hand in surrender position, DISGRACE !!!!!!)
2) corruption within Home Team
- scdf/cnb/cpib/kovan case (police murderer) (btw, no update from this murder case)

Showing its supporters that it is doing something, anything to make sure another riot doesn't happen again.

Little India without Indians... maybe have to rename that whole area, including the MRT station name.

How about 'Little Race Course' or 'Little Tekka'?

It is not cowardice of the poodles lah ...don't blame the poodles, go for their commanders. It is the SPF top brass that denied the poodles' request to fire warning shots. Without the right to use their firearms, what can the poodles do but to run for cover.

Just admit that your poodles, like all sinkies are ball-less. No need to defend your MIW masters, you PAP IB.

We pay them so much to anticipate potential areas when and where we should expect danger and loss of lives. They missed out on the MRT where 2 foreigners painted some graffiti and now Little India. One is excusable but two is unacceptable. I shudder to think when the 3rd one will take place. Will there be loss of lives the next time?

Little India could have been prevented as there were many cases of small incidents, many unreported. Geylang is another area to watch out for as there were many such incidents too. Those responsible for our safety has been too complacent.

In the past, civil servants have this mentality that " never admit your mstakes even if you are wrong". This doctrine seems to be applicable todate. It works in the past because few were there to see the real situation and flow of info can be easily controlled. However, time has changed. Handphone can take videos and pictures can be shared to millions in seconds. Any attempts to twist and turn to cover up for mistakes will only cause greater damage. Credibility is lost and respect gone. Sigh! When will they understand. What works in the past may not work now.

That is why they have awakened and are very afraid they cannot control the situation next time.

Accident provided criminal elements from India the opportunity to stake their claim on Little India as their turfs, territory of control, just like Italian or Russian mafia in USA flexing their power of control, etc or the gangsters in SG in 1950s. Alcohol is not the root cause of the riot. How could 400 rioters be drunk at the same time? Rioters were not drunk, the masterminds or leaders are criminals or Indian mafia operating in Little India.

Where will all those hundreds of thousands of indians go? Maybe they will hang around the casinos:biggrin:

Problem is not this wkend. They have to engineer a better and safer long term strategy. That's the challenge. Meanwhile, pray hard no similar incidents for the next 40yrs.

Singaporeans has become too civil, with all the laws pass down through out the years, unlike the 60's and 70's, in another words they have gone soft.....:(

when sinkies want to protest, they are forced to go to a little area called Hong Lim Park.

When Indians want to protest, they always have a place called Little India.

Even the PRCs didnt have a place. One even had to use the crane on which he worked.

Now the PAP is suffering from the same paranoia as the CCP, who were afraid of the Falunggong exercise groups congregating in the thousands. So they banned them. The PAP has now banned alcohol, and the bus ferry services that facilitated the mass assemblies in the first place.

Why the LTA Minister did not weigh the consequences of 240 buses pouring 20,000 into Little India every weekend? They are so trusting of FWs, esp Indians?

hahaha....long live our national hero...LKY....who gave the mighty British a slap on the face and unilaterally proclaimed Singapore independent....
and yet was so humble that he just recorded the incident in half a sentence in one of his books......truely the sign of a great man......lol.

When the first 'ponding' and MRT breakdown happened, we also prayed hard that no similar incidents for the next X years.
