2nd attempt to sabotage WP by PAP and Straits Times

Proving that a leopard cannot change its spots, the PAP's cronies and the PAP-controlled lapdog sheet Straits Times have started a second attempt to sabotage the WP this time in Hougang.

The leader of this round of sabotage attempt is Victor Lye, the chairman of the PAP-affiliated Citizens' Consultative Committee (CCC) and his henchman Philip Wee, the chairman of the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol Shops Subcommittee which comes under the CCC.

The sabotage attempt revolves around allegations that the WP town council has been holding too many trade fairs at the communal space near Hougang Mall causing shop owners to suffer a drop in business.

It is strange how the matter concerns Philip Wee since he is the chairman of the Bedok Reservoir-Punggol subcommittee and Hougang Mall is in, well, Hougang.

Victor Lye on the other hand is a very active PAP member and mole planted in Hougang to canvass support for PAP until the next election. Despite not being the elected MP or being a candidate of the PAP, he has been doing the rounds and paying visits to residents in Hougang.

His Facebook page also shows the the PAP is actively courting shopowners, probably to drum up support for 2016.

In its slanted report, the PAP-controlled Straits Times attempted to tarnish Sylvia Lim by claiming that police was called when some shopkeepers paid a visit to the town council to speak to Sylvia. It however failed to provide an account of what exactly went on during that visit.

It is baffling why the lapdog sheet has deemed it necessary to give this matter prominent coverage while it conveniently ignored a dispute between a group of 20 Chinatown hawker centre stallholders and the cleaning company early this month. This is the same hawker centre that has been grappling with poor maintenance standards resulting in plates piling up on tables and on the floor.

Furthermore, trade fairs are very common and are frequently held in PAP-controlled Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon.7

The prominent coverage given to this matter in Hougang by the lapdog sheet and the involvement of an active PAP member Victor Lye and the his henchman Philip Wee all point to this being a repeat of the hawker centre centre cleaning episode in which PAP and Vivian Balakrishnan emerged appearing small minded and incompetent.

It was reported in The Straits Times on 13 Nov 2013 that a group of Hougang shopkeepers had sent a "Petition Against Trade Fairs" to AHPETC. Lianhe Zaobao broke the news first on 8 Nov 2013.

From the NEA website, it is understood that the approval and issuance of trade fair and pasar malam permits come under the jurisdiction of the National Environment Agency (NEA).

According to NEA website, NEA controls the process to obtain trade fair and pasar malam permits and one of the requirements is to obtain consensus from the shopkeepers ( see No. 8 ). So, WAS CONSENSUS OBTAINED FROM THE SHOPKEEPERS?

If consensus was not obtained from the shopkeepers, why did NEA issued the trade fair and pasar malam permits? If there was consensus from the shopkeepers, why is a group of shopkeepers making complaints now?

Who should be held accountable for affecting the businesses of the shopkeepers - AHPETC or NEA?

Why is NEA trying to trip up the Workers Party again?

Does PAP know what is to play by democratic rules?

Hougang Trade Fair

Fresh from exacting its pound of flesh from the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC), the National Environment Agency (NEA) homed in on Colorzon Events and Design for organizing an unlicensed trade fair at Kovan City. Those looking forward to pick up a handphone, accessories or children’s clothing at bargain prices will have to head back to Sim Lim Square to be fleeced by the merciless merchants there.

Faced with the new maximum fine of $10,000 – before April 1 it was only $1,000 (“What’s wrong with collecting more money?”) – Colorzon had no alternative but to buckle under the flexing muscles of NEA. Forget about the altruistic element in providing cheaper goods for the residents at Kovan. It is also convenient that the Heartland Mall of Kovan falls neatly into the jurisdiction of Aljunied GRC. We await with unabated breathe as the insidious minds plot to snare AHPETC into the web of the latest transgression of the law.

To dismiss the notion of picking on opposition wards only, the mainstream media took pains to highlight that since 2011, the NEA has taken action against the operators of 16 unlicensed fairs located at Tampines, Toa Payoh, Simei, Clementi, Kovan City, Bukit Merah, Kampong Glam, Chinatown, Serangoon North, Rivervale Walk and Tanglin Halt. Quietly, of course, without the fanfare of nasty publicity to drag anyone through the m&d.

If only the NEA was more focused on fighting dengue. From 1 January 2014 to 8 March 2014, a total of 3,122 dengue cases were reported, representing a 25% increase over last year’s figure of 2,503 for the same period. Last year was the annus horribilis with a record high of 22,170 diagnosed cases. Then again, it must be more fun harassing vendors escaping exorbitant rentals – and passing the cost savings to the consumer – than dealing with the pesky female Aedes mosquito. If the platelet count of Baey Yam Keng continue to fall below the recommended threshold for dengue patients, perhaps the NEA may just sit up and resight its cross-hairs on the right target. No way will they want to be blamed for the horrible prospect of another by-election. Meanwhile Baey is assuring his adulating grassroots supporters that “I am sure with a strong will, I can make it.” That guy will do anything to post another selfie.

The NEA is not doing a service to the PAP! The more they go after AHPETC the more votes will be lost not only in the opposition wards but every where! Perhaps, the PAP will do a post mortem after the 2015 GE and see if it is true!

NEA relentless enforcement action against unlicensed trade fairs operators ultimately helps the REITs operators of high rental shopping malls. What so difficult to understand? But high mall rents discourage people from shopping there especially when wages & incomes have not kept pace with inflation & the economy. Singapore is a high end economy but the masses are being impoverished by PAP policies! When Lei Gardens in Orchard Tower closed their doors, it was indicative of the decline the Singaporeans’ purchasing power!
This clearly shows the PAP’s unsustainable policies – it favours cronies & vested interests (REITs/Landlords/Big retailers) over masses (small trader/limited income purchasers). Singapore’s economy is going downhill. In time, the only ones with money to spend are the tourists but even then they would have been scared off by antics of selected Sim Lim Square retailers. CASE only woke up after the tremendous global bad publicity given by the world media & the Chinese authorities to the Sim Lim Square incident. The govt. pay themselves huge salaries but incidents such as this Jover Chew joker sticking a middle finger to customers with 1 & 5 cts change or forcing tourists to beg for return of their money are signs of a place that has gone sick in the head & authorities that doesn’t care other than collecting fines or making meaningless media statements.

Which is why it is extremely important that the next non PAP govt 1st priority is : must do a thorough job of purging every strata of these PRO PAP organisations of these bootlickers. A database with photos should be compiled

Total removal, using SAF NS tactics taught in "search and destroy", cut grass, pull out roots.

Easily done ...all top civil servants must be sacked, promote within and put all scholars on notice that they will no longer enjoy free cruise career.
All PAP-affiliated organizations like CCC, RC, PA must be flushed of their current leadership.
Current CJ, AG must be replaced. All heads of uniform groups must go to ...replaced by professional.

The shopkeepers that supports this at Hougang Central are a bunch of losers, instead of concentrating on improving their business & making profits, they get themselves involved in politics; petty politics. The residents in that GRC & single ward...should have a good memory of these "two clowns".

Instead of spending their energy & effort in keeping the area safe from mosquitoes....they spend it discrediting the oppositions..IS THIS THE KIND OF PEOPLE YOU WANT TO RUN YOUR CONSTITUENCY?

THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY....the PAP IS STILL IN THE 1960'S......WAY BEHIND TIME, IN MENTALITY...you are voting for this low class mentality who are very educated people...SHAME ON YOU, VOTERS!

It all about impairing WP's ability to conduct grassroots activities because PAP knows such outreach programmes were pivotal in winning the hearts and minds of heartlanders and thereby gives a party the critical edge it needs to win elections. Which is why many policies are skewed towards this objective including denying opposition the right to conduct functions at the void deck, function halls in wards controlled by PAP, transferred 2 dozens of sites previously under the controlled of TC to the jurisdiction of PA right after WP won, restrict APHETC from holding any trade fairs etc.
