SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 50-year-old man who is believed to be involved in a case of housebreaking and theft at a HDB flat in the vicinity of Bukit Batok Street 21.

On Jul 1, 2013 at about 7.20am, police received information that the man was a attempting to break into a flat in the vicinity of Bukit Batok Street 21. Officers from Jurong Police Division Headquarters responded immediately to the incident and managed to arrest the man.

Preliminary investigations revealed that he had attempted to break into the same unit on Jun 30, 2013.

If charged, the man will face up to a maximum of 10 years' imprisonment.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Wilson Lim commended the officers for their excellent ground coordination which led to the successful arrest.

DAC Wilson would like to remind home owners to adopt the following crime prevention measures to prevent break-ins into their homes:

a) Make sure that your main doors and windows are properly secured with strong grilles and good quality locks;

b) Do not leave large amounts of cash in your home. All cash, jewelleries and valuable items should be kept in a bank or in a good quality safe that is anchored to the wall/floor to prevent the safe from being carted away.
