SINGAPORE - A 32-year-old man was nabbed by house owner and with the help of passer-by after he broke into a private property on West Coast Road on June 11.

The police said in a statement to the media that the house owner was standing near the car porch when he saw an unknown man jumping down from the parapet of his house at about 10.30pm on Tuesday.

The owner shouted and chased after the suspect who fled towards the main road. His shouts for help attracted the attention of a man who was jogging nearby. The public-spirited jogger immediately went forward and assisted the house owner to detain the suspect.

Officers arrived at scene shortly after and placed the suspect under arrest. An iron tool was found in his possession and seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was involved in another break-in incident near Holland Road about a week ago.

The suspect will be charged in court on June 13, 2013 for the offence of housebreaking and theft by night under Section 457 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224. Anyone convicted for housebreaking and theft by night faces 2 to 14 years of imprisonment.
