Had a visit to Lantau Island,Hong Kong. A very humbling experience - far from the maddening crowd.A place to meditate.A place to seek solace, peace and silence. A place to renew your spiritual weakness. One of the best vegetarian lunch I ever had. A great place to visit...The Giant Buddha....world's largest seated Buddha. Awesome!

Giant Buddha Lantau Island

Tian Tan Buddha is a large bronze statue of the Buddha, completed in 1993, and located at Ngong Ping, Lantau Island, in Hong Kong. Also known as the Big Buddha, it is the world's tallest outdoor seated bronze Buddha. The statue is located near Po Lin Monastery and symbolizes the harmonious relationship between man and nature, people and religion. It is a major center of Buddhism in Hong Kong, and is also a popular tourist attraction. The Buddha sits serenely watching over the samsaric world.

Well. It is a restaurant in a monastery. If too simple, the tourists probably cannot tahan. I thought the vege restaurant was too pricy. The vege cafeteria outside was quite decent. One plate of bee hoon enough for two persons.

Heard from a few friends that HKG is very much like SG. Pace is very hectic. Everywhere you go visit, people seems to be rushing to somewhere. Got a friend even says after the holiday trip to HKG, she felt like she didnt go holiday/relax at all. Comments anyone?

trails in and around tai mo shan promise a good hike. there are wild cows in the new territories up in the green hills around reservoirs in the northeast. you can make them happy as abstinence is forced upon them for lack of a ravaging bull.

Hong Kong is

1. much more crowded
2. much more polluted
3. much noisier

Was there for around 1.5 years. It's a great party place for the first 2-3 months but after that i couldn't wait to get back to SG. Really don't know what attracts people to it, especially when you have a family. It's a shithole.

Sinkapore is going to get there soon and get worse. The Sumatra haze will be coming soon. Now, there is the dengue epidemic. What's next?

if you can't find a room in hk, try metropark hotel (formerly metropole hotel) and ask for room number 913 (formerly 911). don't ask the front desk who referred you to that hotel and room. it's better not to know.

some folks do like to get haunted. it's thrill-seeking. :p

anyway, that entire floor is back in business. room numbers have changed, and the clueless check into them without knowing what transpired a decade ago. time flies, memories fade.
