How people reserve tables in S'pore's CBD during lunch hour

Some ingenious patrons resorted to using their handkerchiefs, making a sign or using shoes to reserve many tables.

Singapore, March 11, 2013

A contributor to citizen journalism site Stomp came across this photo that showed how office workers in the Central Business District reserved seats during the busy lunch hour with unopened drink cans and their handkerchiefs.

Previously another contributor spotted a pair of shoes placed on a table at a food court in Parkway Parade to reserve it.

Reserving of tables, or 'chope' as it is known colloquially, is usually done using bags or tissue packets.

Some ingenious patrons resorted to using their staff passes, stethoscopes, making a sign or used an entire newspaper to reserve many tables.

Bro, if you work in Raffles place and you have only one hour for lunch (including the travel time to the foodcourt and waiting for the lift), you will know why.

They can make you a hit on Stomp

do it real fast while they line up for food. moreover, you're helping the cleaning ladies by keeping tables clean. and removing suspicious packs that may be contaminated with bio hazards. stained or used female sanitary napkins will require gloves for handling. nothing wrong with doing your civic duty.

They should do away with the tables and chairs and make everyone sit on the floor to eat.

See how they chope then.

Can always buy takeaway. Why must sit down and eat together?

Might as well say hold hands go toilet together in office...

During the busy lucheon hours is very difficult to chope. If you want to choose seats or locations, you have come early. Use smartphones if they dare.

Takeaway = go back office earlier. What's the fun in that?

Especially, during the hot season, the big crowd will add extra heat to the sweaty situation. Only food courts have aircon. Sometimes, it is a psychological thing to get away from the office to get a breather.
