SINGAPORE: A "getai" singer has been sentenced to one weeks' jail and fined S$8,000 for drink driving and failing to keep proper lookout on the road.

Chin Chee Yin, 49, was also disqualified from driving for four years.

He admitted to one count of drink driving in November 2012 along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 and one count of failing to keep a proper lookout on the road.

Chin has a previous conviction - in June 2010 - for drink driving.

Popular getai artiste and emcee Qi Xian, will be jailed for one week and fined $8,000 for drink driving and another traffic offence.

According to the Shin Min Daily News report, on Nov 6 last year at about 1am, Qi Xian was driving home after consuming alcohol when he encountered a police roadblock while turning into Ang Mo Kio Ave 5 from Ave 3.

His alcohol level was found to be above the limit, and he was also found to be driving in an unsafe manner, grazing a parked police bike parked by the roadside.

Qi Xian said in his appeal that he was depressed that night as his wife, Zhu Li Li, the younger sister of the popular duo Mingzhu Sisters, said she wanted to leave him and he was also stressed taking care of his business.

He will be serving his sentence from March 25 as he has getai hosting engagements to complete. He had hoped to be sentenced for only a day, but due to a prior drink driving offence, his sentence could not be so short. He will have to post bail of $15,000.

Zhu Li Li has denied that their marriage is on the rocks, saying that everything is alright. The couple went visiting together for Lunar New Year and had reunion dinner together. As their two young sons were in school, they had yet to tell them the news.

Those in the getai industry told the evening Chinese paper that after serving his sentence, Qi Xian will definitely have no problem returning to work as he has admitted his mistake and the getai audience will be able to accept him and continue supporting him.
