PAP getting worried about this Saturday's rally at Hong Lim Park?

SINGAPORE: Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC Hri Kumar Nair has proposed levying an additional income and property tax on Permanent Residents (PRs) and foreigners living in Singapore.

In a Facebook posting on Wednesday, Mr Hri Kumar said the objective of the National Defence Duty is to create sharper distinctions between Singaporeans and others who live or do business here.

He noted that PRs and foreigners cannot contribute manpower to the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team.

Thus, they should make a financial contribution to the protection and preservation of their lives, families, jobs, investments and properties.

Mr Hri Kumar added that those who have sons who are liable for National Service (NS) will be exempted.

However, those who send their sons away before enlistment will have to pay back-taxes and penalties, over and above the bond which is forfeited.

This would be the same for those who give up their PR status.

Mr Hri Kumar further proposed that the revenue earned be placed in a National Service Trust to directly benefit National Servicemen.

The trust funds can be used to supplement the allowance of full time National Servicemen or NSFs from poor families.

In addition, it should compensate NS men who have been injured in the line of duty.

It can even provide an income for a period of time to families of NS men who have been killed.

Mr Hri Kumar believes this proposal will not cause PRs and foreigners to flee from Singapore.

He said that even with the tax increase for foreigners, it will still be among the lowest of developed countries, and Singapore will still be one of the more attractive places to live and work in.

A good suggestion from the MP.

He should not only "think about NSmen from poor families" but look at all NSmen for the allowance they are paid is measly.

Hri also claimed that the "foreigners cannot contribute manpower to the Singapore Armed Forces and Home Team"

Does the MP know that the SPF is part of the Home Team and it has control over the Auxiliary Police in the form of Certis Cisco and Aetos?

Aren't there thousands of "armed" Malaysian auxiliary policemen and women in Singapore serving these two companies?

In the same vein, he should call for the total abolition of these "alien armed force" in our country.

What about the Gurkha Contingent? Is it not part of the Home Team too?.

Does it not come under the control of the Minister Home Affairs and Commissioner of Police?

Please look into these areas as well.

I do not know about the rest but I sure am fearful of these people who are deployed in "sensitive" areas.

If they can commit suicide, I shudder to think what else can they do before pulling the trigger on themselves.

National service need not mean defence and holding weapons. Nursing, ceremonial guard duties, national day parades etc can be part of national service. Unarmed neighbourhood watch, police post duties etc. Even doing security checks in MRT can be designated as national service.

Why do these coattail MPs like to come up with complicated things and always have a money twist all things. Just make all foreigners who want to work here or want become PR be made to do minimum 6 months full time national service in some shape or form, not necessarily in the armed forces. They will be paid private solider salary like all ns men and can man counters, serve in hospitals or clinics, in charity homes etc or some similar community service FULL TIME. Every year after that make them do 4 weeks "Incamp" . Lets see how many actually show up.

I agree with you bro.

There is no need for such a massive standing army or latest weaponries arsenal.

The money saved can be used for other projects that benefit the people directly.

Also NSmen can be tasked to drive public buses hence alleviating the need to depend on foreigners.

Cisco and Aetos can also "receive" such intakes after a 3 months basic training for duties at vital installations.

With these system in place we bid farewell to the Malaysians too.

Best is that the expats can claim from company as "expenses". So no effect on them!

Make them do community work instead. They get to hold their PRs or apply for Citizenship only after clocking the hours/days/month

what a disappointing message from this CB, talking about taking care of foreigners sons injured in NS.
What about the true blue Singaporeans NSF that were hurt and died for Singapore since the start of LKY dodgy NS scam.

Bro Television,

I have known ordinary people who are doing community work among the poor and destitute, orphans and un-wed mothers in remote parts of Indonesia.

The Indonesian Govt is kind to them in many ways but when the question of PR comes, the answer is a firm "NO" because the Nation is strictly reserved for the "Rakyat" or People.

A truly poor, impoverished Nation, who is still coming to true democracy simply do not give valuable things like PRs to anyone.

Our so-called 1st World Nation is bringing in foreigners from backward nations with filthy habits and offering them PRs like someone selling hot-cakes.

Another way to look at the HS liability inequality is to seriously increase the benefits to NSF and NSmen, as well as to stop the silent discrimination against NSmen in the private sector.

The crime of our lads serving NS is that they are born as original Singaporeans and hence liable for NS.

Kids of PRs are treated so specially.

Our lads are paid peanuts and go true all the motions reuqired in the BMT and remaining years.

Many of them are injured. Some even loose their lives.

The least our rich government could do is to give them the rank salary paid to Regulars. This has never been the case.

At least some form of payment ought to be made to them for their loyalty and sincerity in serving NS.

Is this asking for too much?
