My neighbour told me - be honest to your self Nancy and do an honest assessment of candidates for Punggol. So for once I thought to myself and decided to do a simple tick sheet and let the numbers do the talking;

Note: these are all facts that came from him or from the state controlled media, my comments only in brackets.

1. "He grew up in a farmhouse at Lorong Cheng Lim" (Punggol) - 1 point

2. "Dr Koh calls himself "kaki lang" (one of us in Teochew) and a "son of Punggol"." - 1 point

3. "Punggol-born and bred, Dr Koh said he has many fond memories of his childhood in the north-eastern enclave." - 1 point

4. "The eldest of five children spent his early years playing in rubber plantations, pigsties and chicken coops" (relevant as Punggol is considered rural) - 1 point

5. "His father used to drive Trans-Island bus service number 82, where the route terminated at Punggol Point." - 25 points (how many people have bus driver fathers whose service ends at the constituency they are contesting)

6. "After his Saturday canoeing sessions, the young Dr Koh would have his meals at Choon Seng restaurant, a seafood zi char place at Punggol end jetty famed for its chilli crabs and mee goreng." - 10 points ( lets face it, he could have anywhere else to have his meal but chose Punggol)

7." "Punggol has always occupied a special place in my heart with special memories."" - 2 points

8." "The fact that there are so many Teochews in Punggol itself kind of makes us like 'Teochew lang, kaki lang' (Teochew people, one of us)." - 10 points ( able to connect)

9. "Coming back to Punggol East is a bit like coming home to me." - 1 point ( repetition)

10. "As an HDB heartlander myself, I can readily identify with many of the issues and daily struggles faced by Singaporeans." - 10 points (one with the people)

11. "And as the eldest child, he often worked odd jobs in his younger days to help support the family"- 20 points

12. "lives in an HDB flat which he bought on a loan from his uncle" - 20 points ( points to struggle)

13. "As a son of Punggol, I will do my utmost together with my team of grassroot leaders and volunteers to make Punggol East a better place to live in," - 30 points (inclusive)

14. "He has keen interest in the arts. He was active in school plays and drama as actor and director." 25 points ( creative and multi-dimensional)

15. "He has also won the National Chinese poetry recital award in secondary school and also put up a play in public during his university days." ( talented)

16. "He made mention too of a grand-aunt he would visit in a little fishing enclave called Wa Gang in Teochew (Many Teochews live in Punggol and, he hastens to add, he's one of the kin too)." - 50 points ( generational reach)

17. "It's a message that every candidate contesting in his or her hometown is sure to trot out at some point: I know you, I am one of you." - 100 points (powerful)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All that said, it is clear that if a candidate has some hometown credentials, no one will advise him to keep it under wraps.Ultimately, even if being a son of Punggol might not help swing an election decisively in your favour, it certainly doesn't hurt. - Goh Chin Lian , Strait Times, Friday 11 Jan.

He is either daft or he is deliberately skirting the Ponggol hype when he thinks that it is attracting sympathy votes. I think it is more likely he is trying to shed his elite image, as these days, elites have earned themselves a terrible name.

it took LHL weeks to enjoy the year end festivities before suddenly deciding on a date for the punggol-east BE, days after the new year partying.... what mystery therein???

they have the largest headcount of membership for any political party on this alcatraz, and they brag the elitist achievements of some of their members.
they have scores of scholarstic people that can fill an auditorium during their party annual events
they say they have the best selection of candidates, so much so that they can mobilize super-subs when 1st team candidate chicken out at the last minute
they even have veterans that are ready to be recycled when duty calls

then for some unknown reason, they suddenly decide to field a noob that hasnt even clocked ample time & mileage in their white jersey.

so this chap has an impressive CV and is undoubtedly a well sought after specialist, bcos not many dr like to see & study other's asses. it appears that he is already boarded in several parallel medical consultancies & practices etc. he says he's proud of his roots as a kampong boy, and its quite evident that he's also proud of his achievements to date.

he says similar things as the loser from hougang BE, that he is his own man, he doesnt rely on heavyweights etc. then the question is, why didnt he stand for the BE as an independant candidate? he's not even past his 1st trimester in all white. so, did he join the all white with a hidden adenda?

pay attention to detail, he's not showing confidence... he's displaying arrogance.

82 was SBS in the 70s/80s, if i remember correctly only change to Tibs in the 90s.

btw, punggol point still many kilometers from the current punggol east smc.

I think this is a big con to be awarded 25 points. There NEVER was a Trans-Island bus no.82. SBS yes. Trans Island operated the Sengkang bus routes such as 864, 865 etc... these were later handed over to SBS when SBS got to operate the NEL and the buses were merged with SBS 84 and 85 I think. SBS 82 has ALWAYS remained with SBS which plies the whole length of Punggol Road. So he should get minus 25 points instead for trying to con us.

The last PAPzi MP that talked so much about his humble roots is none other than Mah Bow Tan. Sinkies that vote for PAPzi Comrade Koh are obviously hoping for another great assfuck. The logic with the PAPzis is simple, if they say it is good then what it means is that it is bad. If they say something is bad then reality is that it is good.

Punggol is a relative new town. Not everyone is borned in Punggol. Young couples from every corner of Singapore could not get their ideal flats in matured estates were forced by PAP to relocate to Punggol. Such hate of PAP is immeasurable. So what if he is one minute son of Punggol and became the residents of somewhere else doesn't make him any special other than a PAP parrot.

Furthermore, he just joined politics like...1 month ago and than claimed to have understood and served the residents? Can everyone here still remember how Punggol was supposed to be turned into a vibrant place since GCT's leadership but it kept delaying with various names like Punggol 21, Punggol riverside and what have you. How many years have PAP been managing Punggol and why todate still so many municipal issues dangling in the air resulting in PAP having to push a panic button for the sake of this BE and to bring in another puppet to run the show? Can you imagine if Palmer was still in the ward, does PAP really care if Rivervale Plaze construction has been stopped like..months? No childcare facilities, not many wetmarket, bus were few....ALL BECAUSE OF PAP has been sleeping in Punggol East for too long.

We need WP to wake all these sleepy PAP burgers and make them work harder than before to win back Punggolites' heart.
