Forgiveness

Forgiveness is giving up the emotional need to punish someone who has mistreated you. Forgiving isn't easy, but you will never have peace of mind until you do.
Jesus told the parable of a man who owed a king a great amount of money. The man begged the king for leniency. The king, out of the goodness of his heart, forgave the man's debt.
This man then confronted someone who owed him a small debt. The second man begged for extra time, but the forgiven man threw him into debtors' prison. When the king found out what had happened he punished the man he had forgiven saying, "Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?"
Jesus then said, "So my heavenly Father also will do unto you if each of you, from his heart, does not forgive his brother his trespasses" (Matthew 18:22-35

). When you refuse to forgive, you not only twist your own emotions into anger and despair, you damage your ability to respond to God's forgiveness.
The lesson of the parable is that since God shows us mercy we are to show mercy to others. Mercy is a common theme in Proverbs.
Points to Build On
There is a number of Hebrew words translated mercy in the New King James. A common word is checed which encompasses "the attitude of love which contains mercy". The word is defined by "love, benevolence, kindness, good will, favor, grace, mercy, piety, loyalty, unfailing love, beauty" (NASB Hebrew/Greek Key Study Bible). In the New American Standard translation this word is sometimes rendered "lovingkindness" which captures some of the meaning.
1. God exhibits mercy in supplying Atonement for our sins.
Proverbs 16:6
: "In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the LORD one departs from evil."
2. Mercy should be a vital aspect of a person's character.
Proverbs 3:3-4

: "Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, Write them on the tables of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man."
3. Mercy is the product of planning to do good.
Proverbs 14:22
: "Do they not go astray who devise evil? But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good."
Good doesn't always happen naturally. It must be thought-out and planned. Jewish Publication Society translation: "Surely those who plan evil go astray, While those who plan good earn steadfast love."
4. Mercy produces kindness.
Proverbs 21:21
: "He who follows righteousness and mercy finds life, righteousness and honor."
Jewish Publication Society translation: "He who strives to do good and kind deeds attains life, success and honor."
5. Mercy produces benefits for the person who posses it.
Proverbs 11:17
: "The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh."
Jewish Publication Society translation: "A kindly man benefits himself; A cruel man makes trouble for himself."
6. Good leadership is based in mercy.
Proverbs 20:28
: "Mercy and truth preserve the king, And by lovingkindness he upholds his throne."
Application
Mercy is more than granting someone pardon because you have the power to do so. It is the heartfelt expression of lovingkindness towards the person who has done wrong.

The 90/10 Principle.

By Steven Covey (Author of bestseller The 7 Habits of Highly Effective
People)

Discover the 90/10 Principle. It will change your life (at least the way
you react to situations). What is this principle?
10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is
decided by how you react. What does this mean?

We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We
cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late
arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut
us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other
90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light. However,
you can control your reaction. Do not let people fool you; YOU
can control how you react.

Let us use an example: You are eating breakfast with your
family. You daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your
business shirt. You have no control over what just happened.
What happens next will be determined by how you react. You
curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup
over.

She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your
spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the
edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm
upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your
daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get
ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave
immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because
you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed
limit zone. After a 15-minute delay and throwing $60 traffic
fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the
bu ding without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office
20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day
has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse
and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you arrive
home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your
spouse and daughter.

Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you
have a bad day?

A. Did the coffee cause it?
B. Did your daughter cause it?
C. Did the policeman cause it?
D. Did you cause it?

The answer is "D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you
reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is
what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You
gently say, "Its ok honey, you just need to be more careful
next time". Grabbing a towel, you rush upstairs. After grabbing
a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to
look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. R>She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully
greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are
having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended
different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens.
The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle.

If someone says something negative about you, do not be a
sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You do not
have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and
it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in
losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic?
? Do you lose your temper?
? Pound on the steering whe ? (A friend of mine
had the steering wheel fall off)
? Do you curse?
? Does your blood pressure skyrocket?
? Do you try to bump them?

WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the
cars ruin your drive. Remember the 90/10 principle, and do not
worry about it.

You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep and get
irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying energy and time
into finding another job.

The plane is late; it is going to mangle your schedule for the
day. Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She
has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study,
get to know the other passenger.

Why are you stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now
you know the 90/10 principle. Apply it and you will be amazed
at the results. You will lose nothing if you try it.

The 90/10 principle is incredible. Very few know and apply this
principle.

The result? Millions of people are suffering from undeserved
stress, trials, problems and heartache BR>

We all must understand and apply the 90/10 principle.

It CAN change your life!

In tragedy there is hope in God.

FULL transcript of the mother of the Tampines' boys who were in the news recently,Mrs Yap (30/01/2012) - Translated from Mandarin

"Brothers and Sisters-in-Christ, peace be to you. To all... the strangers who came today, I don't know you all, but because of your love, thank you for coming today, I really appreciate your presence heretoday. Your support gives my family & I a lot of strength, or else I won't be able to stand here today.""Today at about 4pm, while I was bathing, I heard a voice. A voice that tells me to share... how I came to know Jesus, and accepted Jesus.""I come to know Jesus because of my eldest son. My son Nigel is a hyperactive child, and He gave us MANY problems. My husband & I were on the brink of divorce. I'm not saying 宗教 is not good, because I know this is a sensitive issue. I just want to share with you my experience.""Now I do believe there is only One God. And there is really One God. And this God is good.""There are divine ways and solutions we were trying to seek, we even went to Malaysia to calm our child. But we couldn't find the way. My child gave us a lot of problems.""But my sister introduced me to Jesus, she said "You tried every way. Why don't you try and believe Jesus? He is also a God. Just come and try, if it doesn't work then it's okay.""So I agreed and decided to ask Jesus, it's better to try than nothing right?""Once I believed in Jesus, my whole family has changed. In the past my husband and I ALWAYS quarrel. At that time I was just a new christian.""Being a Christian doesn't mean we will not have difficulties, we will still face different trials. But relying and trusting in Jesus, we will definitely triumph in every trial.""Jesus saved our marriage. And through our eldest son, our whole family was soooo blessed.""Actually Donovan's not my 2nd child, I had a miscarriage of my 2nd child after 2 months. It was difficult trying to conceive him. (cries)""After Donovan was born, He gave us a stronger encouragement. I believed that Donovan is from GOD, and I always thought, Nigel used to give us a lot of trouble, so God gave me Donovan to compensate what has been lost previously.""Actually my thinking was very wrong indeed.""Because GOD will SURELY give us the best.""Nigel, is also my BEST son, my precious son.""Last Saturday in Hokkien service, I was leading worship and Nigel was playing drums. My son, Nigel told me "Mummy, I don't know how to drum, I don't know how to drum Chinese New year songs." I told him, "I know you can, you can surely do it!" And He really did. We were really good leading together.""And my youngest son, He loves to dance and sing. In Sunday school, we also paired up for dancing and singing. And we were a great pair.""I really thank God, that through this two sons, I have a lot more blessings than before.""I believe right now, they are in heaven.""During the night of tragedy, my sister dreamt that they were wearing white robes and a crown of glory, both holding hand-in-hand, and said 'goodbye' to my sister in laughter.""I really believe one day I will meet them in heaven one day.""Because of these two sons, I will continue to live on strongly... (cries).""I really thank you Singaporeans, for showing your love and support. I am really extremely appreciative. God is so good, All Glory to God (Hallelujah)."

Two Pastors
============

Two Pastors wives were visiting and sewing their husbands pants.
One wife said: My husband is just beside himself, he does not
know what to do anymore and he is so tired and depressed he said
he is ready to just give up and resign.

The other wife said: I am sorry to hear that because my husband
has never been happier. Our membership is growing and we are
out of our financial burden, we have such a large and loving
congregation. Life could not be any better than it is right now.

(One woman was mending the seat of her husbands pants,
the other was mending the knees.)

~Nathaniel H. Bronner Jr.~

you wont teach your children that santa claus is real, nor odin or kwan yin or tua pek kong are present. but you will teach them garbages like western gods and prohibit them from questioning the cruelty of god's account in the old bible. and force them to be stupid and ignorant .

now that is child abuse.

Shipwrecked
============

There were two men shipwrecked on this island. The minute they
got on to the island one of them started screaming and yelling,
"We're going to die! We're going to die! There's no food!
No water! We're going to Die!"

The second man was propped up against a palm tree and acting so
calmly it drove the first man crazy. "Don't you understand?
We're going to die!"

The second man replied, "You don't understand,
I make $100,000.00 a week."

The first man looked at him quite dumbfounded and asked,
"What difference does that make? We're on an island with no
food and no water! We're going to DIE!!!"

The second man answered, "You just don't get it.
I make $100,000.00 a week and I tithe ten percent on that
$100,000.00 a week.

My pastor will find me!"
