My sense is most people's average commuting time is about 1-2 hr. 2-3 hr in a jam is draining if you are the driver. If it is really so good to be jammed at the bridge, a lot of Singaporeans would have migrated over to Johor. My guess is because of the jam, more people are migrating back to Singapore.

To me 1.5 hr max., beyond that its draining. Worse if its a regular feature.

Yes I got a car in Malaysia and its cheap. 7 year old car and I use it for long trips and pump Ron 95. Insurance for me is S$200 per year. My Spore cars are 10 times more than that.. maybe Singapore is 10 times more likely to have accident? And my road tax is $50 per year. I couldn't believe it at first and I had to confirm that its not $50 per month cos in Singapore we are used to pay sky-high prices " after various subsidies "

Bro, to be fair, if one "talk down" to Any person ( not you per se), they are not going to smile or be helpful. It actually starts with "you".... If on first contact one smile and greet the other person, even the most hardened person will be "softened" by the pleasant demeanour. I'm sure you would if you were on the other receiving end. Just imagine if you were to meet several people in the first couple hours in the morning who came up to you, no smile, sometimes rude, no greetings, just stick an application form under your noise and 'expect first class service' how would you react.

Yes, it may be superficial, even with professionalism, appreciation and personable approach, would get you a more pleasant experience.......
When you pay a "token sum" you should not "demand" good quality service or product....
Name me one place where you get "Good Quality service and product" and I will show you their detractors.....
If you go prepared, what reasons can they tekan you with...... I have seen people going to do their passport, with the wrong photos, knowing well before they gave it, to get the photos with the right color background, but thought they could use another photo because it will "save" them a few Ringgit..... Seriously..... The time spent queuing then being asked how come the photo is not the correct one and being given that reason or "I forgot to bring a supporting document for the application......" Is not only frustrating for the counter staff who deals with this type of "stupidity"not only on a daily basis but also having to face rude and condescending attitude is enough even for me to give "black face" to anyone I would meet on a daily basis.
But I tell what is bad, is to stand in the queue behind these type of people who know they are "in the wrong" as such and listen to them giving their excuses and wasting everyone's time to insist that their application CAN be processed and to just accept what they are submitting. Then when it's your turn, of course you Kena the 'black face' at get go..... So you try to moderate the situation by being extra pleasant and winsome, human nature...... It does mollify the other person, so that by the end of your encounter you would have at least a "smile" when you say Terima Kasih and walk off......
Ya, Bro, I used to 'potong jalan' here too, but since sometime early this year, they blocked this up, I also don't know why. And now there remains I believe two ways to jb custom, one from edl and the other from the townside. To me, the jam could be an excuse to impose high entry fees, but will the fees stop people from entering the country on either side? Really the solution is in getting faster immigration/customs/security clearance if the mass public transport system is not ready. There are benefits to the respective country on both sides for people to visit. Our two casinos with their integrated activities benefit Singapore, not to forget, Singaporeans are operating businesses and factories in JB and we go there for cheaper petrol and spending.....Any additional fees imposed by JB as a result of August increase will affect commuters like us, travellers and most importantly investors. No need to increase the threshold to RM 2 million...even restoring the RM500,000 threshold may not tempt foreigners to buy. And so I think the best is for KL to postpone their decision to a later date.
whoa! wht makes you think i 'talk down ' to them? i can assure you, my default position when speaking to people is to be polite first. Anyway, i'm used to the sh** when doing things at govt offices in m'sia. to be fair, they seem to be making a genuine effort to be more 'customer oriented' these days.
