Caran d'Ache 1010 Diamonds Limited Edition Fountain Pen

Caran d'Ache Horlogerie 1010 Diamonds Limited Edition Fountain Pen
    A Masterpiece of Light
1010 Diamonds, a unique piece with wonderful gem setting, has illuminated the world of fine writing. This fine writing instrument in white gold with more than 850 exceptionally pure diamonds brings together the expertise of leading jewelers, goldsmiths and master craftsmen of Caran d'Ache Pens, the Geneva Maison de Haute Ecriture.

The time is right for this unique alliance between Fine Watchmaking, Fine Jewellery and Fine Writing. These three artistic crafts are all part of a Swiss heritage in which time is a world of excellence, precision is an absolute standard, and diamond-setting is an art. This priceless expertise is transmitted from generation to generation.

Geneva, the historic centre of these noble traditions, is home to the greatest goldsmiths and setters, and la Maison Caran d'Ache has invited one of them to set its dream: the 1010 Diamonds. This unique creation is a genuine masterpiece of craftsmanship in the 1010 Pen Collection, created as a tribute to Fine Swiss watchmaking.

In the privacy of their workshops, the master jewelers have prepared the stones, one by one, for this meticulously precise setting. The individual cut and carefully arranged proportions of the stones create superb reflections, bringing an incomparable brilliance to this artistic and technical gem that is finished to a standard worthy of the most exceptional watch movements.

The sheer nobility of the Caran d'Ache 1010 Diamonds Limited Edition Fountain Pen is immediately apparent. The sophisticated cap is created by a unique process of hammering and mounting that recalls the gear teeth theme of the 1010 Pens. Its 26 lines of 22 baguette-cut diamonds are set individually in the purest traditions of the craft. As a touch of supreme refinement, alternate lines are inversed to reveal the culasse (the base of the diamond) which is specially cut to give the stones a wonderful sparkle. Each line of baguettes is given its own dimensions, making a total of 44 different cuts.

The diamond-encrusted cap is crowned with the Caran d'Ache monogram and its clip, in the form of a watch hand, is set with a glittering brilliant. At the other end, an oscillating weight, a marvel of precision, is paved with diamonds. The body of the pen comprises two cages created in the purest spirit of jewellery. The bridges of the exterior cage are inspired by the gear train of a watch and are set with 150 emerald-cut diamonds. The interior cage, entirely in white gold, evokes the wheels of time. Lastly, the ring explodes with a brilliance that competes with any jewellery. Its 96 white baguettes are punctuated by black diamonds that indicate the quarters on the dial of a clock.

The piston pump, fountain pen nib and ink-feeding system are also the result of Caran d'Ache virtuosity and expertise in precision. The piston pump, made from a cage in white gold, is a set with a brilliant of a generous size. The nib, in 18-carat rhodium-plated gold, is delicately engraved with the gear wheel theme of the 1010 Pen Collection of Limited Editions. It is made and polished by hand to achieve matchless softness and offer a unique level of writing comfort.

This exceptional piece nestles into a black lacquer box that magnificently protects it like a set of royal robes. Its worldwide launch was held at the Watchmaking and Jewellery Show in Basle (BaselWorld 2010).

    Accelerating Time
The Caran d'Ache 1010 represents a unique encounter between Fine Watchmaking and Fine Writing. The master craftsmen of the Geneva Maison de Haute Ecriture have again extended their expertise to create a limited edition in the 1010 Pen Collection devoted to all those who love sports or enjoy a challenge: the 1010 Chrono Sport. This Fine Writing Instrument combines a pure sporting aesthetic with the excellent manufacturing standards of the Swiss Made label.

With an astonishing interplay of depth and volume, the two cages that constitute the body of the 1010 Chrono Sport Pen evoke the wheels and gear trains in the movement of a watch. On the skeleton fuselage, three delicate engravings suggest the counters and the decoration of the bridges, while the black inner chassis depicts the gear train of a high-performance chronograph, with one wheel meticulously hand-painted in red. The ring, like the bezel of a watch, carries luminescent hour markers visible in the darkest of nights.
