Photos of a monk falling on all fours in worship in Xiamen Nanputuo Temple
have gone viral online recently, reports Strait Herald.

The pious monk from Mountain Jiuhua in Anhui Province gained overnight popularity
after a visitor took a snapshot of him and posted it on Weibo, a twitter-like service
in China.

"Regardless of 45-degree stairs, he “defied” gravity to kowtow in a prone position
during the whole worship. I was totally shocked by his piety", said the netizen who
took the photos and posted them on his Weibo account on 29th June.

The worshipping intrigued passing visitors and drew a large crowd in the temple.
Apart from taking photos, many visitors who were deeply moved by his piety gave
the monk food and water.

The monk said that he had worshipped in this way in all of China’s Four Sacred
Mountains of Buddhism including Mountain Wutai in Shanxi, Mountain Emei in Sichuan,
Mountain Putuo in Zhejiang, and Mountain Jiuhua in Anhui.

Nanputuo Temple or South Putuo Temple, is a famous Buddhist temple founded in
the Tang Dynasty in Xiamen, which is adjacent to Xiamen University and the Lu River.
