Having been thru both countries hospital. I can tell you, you are right. Even the public hospital is so much better then in the private in Singapore. Do you know if you have a medical complication during birth the private hospital would actually send you to a public one when that happens?

You should get down to patient level to see the kind of shit Singapore medical specialists are providing. The bed-side manners is really wanting. Imagine a doctor telling someone in his 70s that he lived long enough.

This patient is not some Liang PoPo dumb type. Over here, even a someone who is down get dignity in the treatment. The staff are so patient, and ensure the patient is cared for. It is not just one or two cases, it is the culture of a system that really show care and not treating patients like they are some uneducated HDB dwelling dumb people.

There are also a number of specialist counselling services that first world Singapore is lacking.

I know of a life coach who run volunteer camps that take care of the mental well-being of men. You have tattooed big men who are really gentlemen, mentor those suffering from mental depression (over family breakdown), and empower them to live better lives. A former New York banker even come here for treatment.
The Upper East side type who earned $3mil a year but still end up with zero in his bank account + credit card bills.

So, to you, "old folks home" looking hospitals not good enough, then I can understand why you are so unhappy.

In Perth, both RPH and SCGH are well-run medical facilities.
I really hate those keeping up appearance and going through motion. You don't see the hospitals here doing that

True..currently making a living in the health service.....white countries focus alot on customer service even in the medical industry.....they have 24X7 hotline for Alcohol and drug, mental health , GP services etc....

I suggest you listen to the speech of Mr Aussie Of The Year Charlie Teo. He was talking about how healthcare and research in Australia is totally shit compared to the USA, which is why he worked there for ten fucking years.

New ultrasound machine for cancer patients

•New $540,000 ultrasound machine helps breast and prostate cancer patients
•First of its kind in the southern hemisphere
•Reduces exposure to radiation for patients

Health Minister Kim Hames today unveiled a cutting-edge ultrasound system - the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere - to help cancer patients undergoing radiation treatment.

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is now home to the high-tech ultrasound guidance system known as ‘Clarity’.

The $540,000 machine uses ultrasound technology to produce three-dimensional images to pinpoint the exact size and location of the tumour.

As a result, less healthy tissue is exposed to radiation and a higher dose of radiation can be targeted at the tumour.

Dr Hames said the machine puts the Western Australian public health system at the forefront of cutting-edge cancer treatment.

The technology is predominantly used on prostate and breast cancer patients. In prostate cancer patients, the ultrasound system is expected to remove the need for patients to undergo surgery to have ‘seed markers’ implanted.

The Minister said the technology was also a significant development for rural patients.

“People living in rural areas won’t have to undergo surgery or need to fly back home to heal before they receive radiotherapy. It will be one less trip to Perth for treatment and far more convenient,” he said.

The director of Radiation Oncology at SCGH, Dr Raphael Chee said breast cancer patients would also benefit.

“Previously, locating target areas for treatment in breast cancer patients used a combination of pre-operative imaging, scars and post-surgery defects as reference points in addition to the patient’s knowledge of the location of the tumour,” Dr Chee said.

“Because the machine is ultrasound based, there is no additional exposure to radiation for patients.”

In an Australasian-first surgery, a Perth patient was able to have his aneurysm repaired at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) in less than a week from diagnosis, thereby avoiding a nerve-racking six week wait for the manufacture of a custom-made graft.

Just before his 73rd birthday, an ultrasound revealed that Perth grandfather of two, Frederick Thomas, had a 7.5cm abdominal aortic aneurysm–a swelling of the arteries behind the belly button.

This was the second blow dealt to Frederick’s health, as he has a rapidly progressing but treatable leukaemia.

After the patient’s imaging was reviewed, it was decided that this particular aneurysm was suitable for the newly available Zenith p-Branch endovascular graft.
Immediate permission was sought from the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), and on the day of surgery a telephone call from Canberra gave Dr Peter Bray the approval to proceed with a ground-breaking surgical procedure that had previously only been performed once in the world.

The surgery was performed at SCGH, with a top Perth-based surgical team led by Dr Bray. Assisted by his colleagues, Mr Stefan Ponosh and Dr John Ferguson, Dr Bray undertook the pioneering four hour procedure.

Peter Bray, Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon at SCGH said that being able to perform the surgery at short notice reduced the risk that the patient’s aneurysm would rupture.

“Being diagnosed with an aneurysm is like having a ticking time bomb inside you for the six weeks you are waiting for your graft to be made,” said Dr Bray. “So having this surgery performed at SCGH within a week of the diagnosis shows what a huge leap forward this p-Branch graft is.”

“Perth is the birthplace of this technology, and people travel here from all around the world to learn the techniques to be used for this “cutting edge” fenestrated technology.”

Been thumbing through this thread: firstly, call australia backward or whatever but they are rated one of the happiest people in the world. I will not trade living here for Singapore. Their lifestyle may not be as fast paced as Singapore but everything works fine. Whatever technology I need at any time I can still buy from Australia right? As for transport, unlike Singapore all I need is a rickety car and I'm good. In Singapore god knows I can never afford a car. So life in Aussie has been excellent for me.
