I truly feel sorry for that poor old lady who suffered such horrible injuries whilst travelling in a SMRT Bus.
Enough is enough. The Government should look into this before the situation worsens.
I have nothing against foreign drivers. But why such over-dependence on these foreigners?

These bus "captains" all appear to be stressed, over-worked and maybe suffering from depression as they are far from their loved-ones..
They are paid peanuts and have a strict time schedule to follow from the starting point to the final destination.
Along the way they have to contend with being rebuked by a bus "INSPECTOR" or "caught" by a SBS Transit or SMRT "Highway" patrol team.

In the police an Inspector is always a rank lower than a ASP (equivalent of a Captain in Army).
Imagine a lower rank rebuking a higher rank? Inspector telling off a Captain......
Isn't this a mockery?
Does it make sense?

Captains of the Sea and Air are a totally different lot.
They wield a lot of authority and command high respect.
They can marry people and even declare any new-born citizen of the territory through which they were cruising or flying.
Air captains (commanders) even have the power to refuse to take off if they feel that the load is dangerous.
These people are paid high salaries too.
Surely, they are a World apart from our "poorly paid Bus Captains".

I too, just like that poor old lady, travels in buses to "pass time".
I have noticed the dangerous manouevres taken by these bus drivers
Common examples like continuously placing their feet on the brake pedals and sudden accelerations, thus causing discomfort to commuters, especially those standing and holding on to bags and kids.
Coming so close to the bus ahead at the bus stops is yet another frightening experience.
Jamming at traffic lights junctions or when coming to a box-junction.

Look at the London Incident. A local lady was assume to be a "fox" and run over.
Hope one day someone here will not be assumed as a dog and run over too.
That driver was not a local Londoner for sure but someone from another country.

Why have we become so reliant on foreigners to drive public conveyances like buses.
Henceforth, bus operators should employ local people, especially those that have retired and are full of wisdom.
Pay these class of people high salaries, fringe benefits, shorter driving time and ample rest in between trips.
Treat our people as our assets.
Be concerned about the well-being of the people.
Always ensure they are a protected lot at home and while abroad.
Charity begins at home.
