SINGAPORE: Public-spirited members of the public helped police arrest four suspects for snatch theft and robbery of mobile phones in two separate cases.
In the first case, the 22-year-old male suspect approached his female victim on the pretext of borrowing her mobile phone at Jurong West Street 91 on Tuesday.
After she handed over her mobile phone, the suspect punched her on her cheek and fled. Her shouts for help attracted the attention of three members of the public who helped to chase the suspect.
In the second case, the 16-year-old suspect approached the 25-year-old female victim and snatched her mobile phone at Woodlands Avenue 6 on Monday.
Three members of the public heard the victim's cries for help, pursued the suspect and managed to detain the person.
Later, two other teens surrendered themselves at a police station and admitted to being accomplices of the arrested suspect.
Police said both arrests represented exemplary examples of the strong partnership between the community and the police in fighting crime together.
