To put things in perspective, an Hougang voter said in impeccable Teochew: “Harping on the NCMP issue is as pointless as worrying about having crooked teeth after you’ve just been diagnosed with AIDS. And finding out your wife is in fact a man.”

But not as if Chee Hean’s hijacking of Desmond Choo’s campaign is frowned upon now that the by-election results are out.

Another native Teochew speaker, Ms. Tan, said: “We need more PAP politicians to practise petty politicking. This will annoy Singaporeans to no end because the mainstream media will pick up on the puny stuff and run along with it. The real issues will not be addressed and this will motivate people to vote against the PAP who appear to be out of touch and full of themselves.”

Self-styled political pundit, Eric de Yaya, concurred but offered an alternative explanation....

That being the case, DC would get between 25-28% of the votes. In the past, when Lau Lee declared personal support, your votes went up. These days, it goes down. Wonder why.

Last time he told voters to repent. This time, his young protégé said to question integrity.

If anyone remembers, Lau Lee's son made a comment "Hougang voters should not vote blindly, but carefully..." (I remember it like that) I think that also caused some feathers to be ruffled.. but honestly.. TCH's carrying on about PNH's supposed "lack of integrity" was like shooting planes with a bow and some arrows

Yes,the DPM factor play an impt role in DC dismayed results. He may possibly get higher no of votes other than the pathetic 145 extra if his campaign was not hijacked halfway.

The DPM seriously miscalculate in his strategy and cost DC to lose potential support. Low was smart not to be taken in,taking most of his strategy on real social issues n instead letting voters and sporeans to decide on these issues ,thus winning a better than expected victory.

Despite all his credentials,the DPM could not match the political acumen n intelligence of the wp chief. He is simply not a match for the WP chief.Maybe the arduous experience has hardened Low into a shrewd political strategist.

Yes, indeed. This was the general opinion of all those I spoke to after the BE results. They said instead of helping DC, he actually saboed him. But they also hope the PAP will continue playing such dirty politics at next GE as it would erode their percentage of votes further. Some also said that the PAP they can't help not behaving this way as LKY's brand of dirty politics had been hard-coded into the party's DNA. So thought the PAP had always promised a clean campaign at the start, they inevitably would end up with such devious and despicable tactics. It's almost instinctive to them. So be it Teo, Khaw or whoever who lead the campaign, it will be the same old ugly and heinous PAP that will emerge.

wonder if they even use it on themselves before questioning others. or maybe they are even too high and almighty as always.

in GE2011, the voters of aljunied thanked harry for solving their dilema. even LHL saying sorry also cant erase his papa's words. the voters sent their message to harry loud and clear... that the papaya r the ones that needed to repent.
in BE2012, the voters of hougang thanks LHL, TCH, KBW, DP for helping them make an informed & effortless decision, to say no to papaya.

come GE2016, as long as there r credible opposition candidates fielded, papaya just need to continue doing wat they r doing, and will become the minority in parliament.
