And so Workers Party has won the by-election in Hougang. And it won respectably with 62% despite all the bricks and bats thrown their way by the PAP and mainstream media during the campaigning.

What does this win say of the Hougang residents? Nothing new, just what we have all been saying that they are one helluva courageous group of Singaporeans who stand unbowed before threats, bullying and even the temptation of freebies. And despite all the m&d thrown at WP by the media and the MIW, the residents remained sharp and clear about who they trust and what is not trustworthy.

By voting for Workers Party yet again, the Hougang people have shown they place the nation above self. If they wanted to think only for themselves they would have voted for the PAP which comes with lots of goodies like upgrading. But most of them did not. They voted with the big picture in mind – on what is best for the nation’s future, for democracy and for fair play. Hougang is certainly a good role model for the rest of Singapore in this respect.

With this reprisal of their brave act, Hougang folks have once again shown Singaporeans (and hopefully the PAP) what it means to be selfless and to have courage and integrity.

Hougang, I salute you guys! You are special indeed! May Hougang always Huat ah!

Huge crowd of WP supporters after WPs win at Hougang by-election

For the efforts put in by Desmond and the PAP during these 9 days of hustings; they managed only a 3% swing.

>>> Which works out 145 votes.

Consider how they had used Yaw Shin Leong as its agenda; making an issue out of the NCMP selection, questioning MP Png’s integrity, having all the party big guns thumping one simple man, with a little boy presenting himself to grannies as if an angel from heaven, the MSM’s relentless WP and Png bashing, the porridge, hearing aids etc. – to swing about 3% of the votes cast?????

Everyone knows that in every electoral division there is no less than 30% to 35% of hardcore PAP supporters. That’s the purpose of gerrymandering.

For the opposition, the hardcore support is roughly between 20% and 25%. The rest are the sort of voters that will listen and discern who they want to vote for.
Considering this, it is a great result for any opposition to win more than 60%. Therefore, for MP Png to win more than 62% is simply out of this world.

We shouldn’t blame or fault the 3% who voted for the PAP. There could be a whole hosts of reasons. For example, 20 years ago they may have no worries voting for the opposition and supporting its national cause. But 20 years on and now seeing their parents become sick and needing help to climb stairs and with markets in the next estate; it cannot be helped that these voters would vote for what they believe will help their families most.

We must continue to see all Hougang voters as champions of Singapore’s democracy. We salute them once again for not buying into the PAP’s bags of tricks – sold by its satanic state press.

There is hope for Singapore. Hope burns bright on this Saturday evening.

Congrats! to MP Png Eng Huat.
HUAT ARH!!!
