DPM Teo: Result does not reflect sentiment towards PAP

The outcome of the Hougang by-election is not a reflection of Singaporeans' sentiment towards the ruling party after the General Election last year, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean said yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after the results were announced - together with defeated People's Action Party (PAP) candidate Desmond Choo - Mr Teo pointed out that Hougang is a "very strong Workers' Party stronghold".

Reiterating that the outcome is "a reflection of the views of the Hougang voters", Mr Teo said: "The elections in Hougang are quite special. Hougang is not representative of the whole of Singapore necessarily. Each constituency is different. Hougang has its own characteristics. We did expect a very difficult fight."

PAP Hougang branch assistant secretary Lionel De Souza said: "Disappointment there will be … (but) we are going to carry on helping the residents. We may be down but we are not out."

Mr De Souza added that the programmes put in place since the GE last year helped to win over some voters. But he did not think that the by-election came too soon as the PAP was "always prepared".

How come the PAP Hougang assistant branch secretary is the ex-corrupt cop turned PI Lionel de Souza ?
All the good and capable dead already in the PAP ?
So is ex-gangster ex-stateless criminal lawyer Subhas Ananda going to provide free legal services in Hougang after PAP lost to WP ?

Also, keep out a lookout on more free hearing aids, Rotary Club toilet seats and complimentary legal advice. All coming to you soon, in Hougang.
When is my turn? Will PAP send their second best candidate?

I think his standing within his party has just taken a dip. With so many bad news against the WP, he has managed to recoup just a hundred odd ex-PAP votes? Let's see whether he next blame it on the grassroots.

150 more votes make PAP small 3% increase totally negligible.

a landslide WP victory. win margin >20% is generally considered a landslide win.

If you cannot afford to pay for legal counsel, isn't in the law that the State will give you one FOC?

<!--start of story text-->Hougang voters have spoken and what a message they have sent.
First, they say, we are sticking with the Workers' Party through thick and thin.
Second, that carrots don't matter to us. Never did.

Still doenst accept the fact. Just like Libya Gaddafi.
All SG from Boon Lay/Woodland/Changi and around SG attend opposition rally with their own time and expenses. What does it mean?
Where PAP rally need to provide bus/food/incentive and mostly member/family member worst FT bangla wasforce to attend the rally.

Mr Teo said: "The elections in Hougang are quite special. Hougang is not representative of the whole of Singapore necessarily.."

This Scum is still out of touch with the sentiments on the ground..

Many Opposition supporters all over the island were cheering for their Hougang brothers and sisters last night..

More cocked ups from the PAP from now till 2016, and we can see more GRCs falling into the hands of the Opposition.. And when that day happens, Big Nose Teo will rue the day he made this cock in the mouth remark of Hougang not neccesarily being the representative of the whole country..

Hougang residents have time and time again shown the rest of the country that they are people with courage and integrity..

Hougang residents have time and time again shown those ball less Sinkies that with a stroke of the pen, they're able to give the PAP another good black eye..

Those ball less 60% CB Kias have many things to learn from their Hougang counterparts..

Hougang residents are seasoned experts in giving PAP the middle finger..

The rest of the country must follow suit in 2016..

Kong lan chiao way!

If the treacherous Papzis had won, then it would have been representative of the whole of S'pore and give them a stronger mandate to fuck us deeper!

The assumption that people living in Hougang are smarter and more discerning than the rest of Singapore is not logical.
Neither is the assumption that they are less smart and less discerning.
So what's the reason for the big win for WP?
Just saying that it's a stronghold is senseless. Does he mean it's filled with WP members?

The reason is simple. The people of Hougang are pleased with the work that the WP have been doing for the past 20 years.
They realise first hand that without PAP, Singapore will continue and perhaps even be better.
