say... what? the polls are now over and what had become of the proceedings of this case?
It has now gone back to the High Court, the case is scheduled to be heard on June 28 and 29 at 10am in Court 3B. It is an open court hearing so anyone with an interest can attend. The challenge is on issues whether the PM has “unfettered discretion” when it comes to calling by-elections, whether the PM has powers to decide when to call by-elections and if he can decide whether he should call by-elections at all.
I think the auntie took issue because prior to announcing and fixing the by-election date the PM said that he would consider carefully “whether and when to hold a by-election in Hougang”, something along that line. As no one knows exactly does the PM have such "unfettered discretion" or powers to decide, the outcome of the hearing will be interesting as it will set a precedence should future incident or situation arise.
