Why wasn't there a by-election for bt batok?

just heard dr gillian koh mentioned on tv something like this: "if a mp dies, there should be a by-election...."

there was a mp who died suddenly of heart attack. he was ong chit chng, the late mp presiding over bt batok.

WHY WASN'T A BY-ELECTION BEING CALLED? is there a mishandling of the parleement?

just overheard from many aunties and uncles about the ysl's vanishing act and his matters of the heart affair. according to them, those were yaw's personal matters. if he ran hougang dutifully, who care what he did in private.

anyway, hougang was won during the GE by WP. if the mp defaulted and disappeared, another wp's candidate should be substituted. there shouldn't be a by-election in the first place. like what dr gillian koh quoted: "unless the elected mp passes away, then a BE should be called....."

that happened in BT BATOK. but there wasn't any BE being held to replace the demised mp dr ong chit chng.

ya but GRC is made up of diff wards. if one ward's mp dies, shouldn't there be BE? dr gillian koh during CNA had blurted that out. and there wasn't a BE in bt batok when their mp ong died. does this mean that bt batok don't need mp? then next time no need to be included in GE also can what. it has run A-OK without mp so what's the point of having an erection there. maybe this could be applied to every wards too. or it has shown that mp is just for show only. have or dun ve also neber mind.

Gillian Koh's words don't count for anything. Pap do what they want. What about "permanent absentee" MP like LKY. He is never there to serve his residents. But still MP. So what say Gillian Koh?

Apart from LKY, Goh Chok Tong is also a "permanent absentee" MP who is hardly around. I do not know when either of these two gentleman last conducted an MPS.

As for by-elections, it wasn't only Dr Ong Chit Chung. There was another MP (Dr Balaji Sadasivan) who died, and no by-election was called.

and nobody then demanded a by-election. like that also can? this means with or without a serving mp, there really isn't any difference.

last time no by-election called for the wards that involved dead MP, i believe the reason given was, they fell under a GRC, and there's more than 1 MP who can help baby-sit the constituents there. also, back then, nobody knew that they had to press the attorney-general button in order to get things moving. and then now, bcos it happens to involve hougang, an opposition ward... a tiny incentive for them to take a gamble.

it feels really ridiculous! a ward without a mp could be allowed. there was already an abuse of the democratic system.

in ysl case, the voters'mandate was for WP. if ysl absconded, WP should remain in charge. pap thought hougang would sure lose. well, it turns out that the brave voters there still want WP.

speaking about putting forth the BEST MAN, why didn't pap put one of their best there? they could ve put kee chiu mickey mouse or any of those automated general-to-minitoot calibre.
