Why do the CNA presenters sound so sad?

If you are watching the live coverage on CNA, you can't help but notice that they are placing the focus almost completely on Desmond Choo even though he lost!

They keep harping on how the result doesn't matter, Desmond Choo's performance improved, focusing on his campaign, his life story etc but with almost no mention on Png Eng Huat, who actually won the election?

And when the results were announced, they sounded moribund and sad!!

The fact of the matter is, it's a GREAT RESULT for Png, considering that he is totally new, and considering that WP has been mired in scandals!

CNA (and the entire Singapore media) is absurd.. the angle from which the news is presented is completely skewed.

It's clear that they are rooting for their "home team", similar to how MUTV or Chelsea TV are always biased towards their teams!

Might as well rename it to PAP TV!

The entire coverage segment was a joke. The real villains are not the PAP, the real villains are the media.

This is one odd election where the media focussed 90% of the time on the loser. The announcement of the early results was also about the loser's performance, no mention of the winner's performance leaving viewers to draw their own conclusion. You can draw your own conclusion.

I am a 100% born and bred Singaporean who served NS and holds a pink IC.

The reason why I am bringing this up is because it needs to be called into question more. We cannot simply resign ourselves and accept that "this is just the way it is". The media conducts itself in a disgusting manner and this needs to be highlighted more and more. We talk about holding the PAP to account by sending opposition MPs into Parliament to question their policies, well we need to question the media's policies too. Why should the media escape scrutiny?

I actually felt that the conduct of the media improved significantly during the GE 2011 campaign (I mean, it was not ideal, but it was a lot better than before).

However, throughout this by-election campaign, they have gone back to the "bad old days", as LTK himself has highlighted in his post-results press conference.

.

Why? PAP owned Mediacorp and SPH. Any burgers inside thse two organisation who tried to go against their boss will be sacked. History has provened it happened. Nobody dare to go against what their masters expected from them.

maybe they heard you say that the media had helped PAP won this BE?

I thought that the media would sway the results. I noticed that the media has taken a retrograde step since GE2011, it is now more than ever a PAP mouthpiece and I felt disgusted by it.

However, the analyst Gillian Koh probably was right when she said that "Hougang residents probably switch themselves off from mainstream media"

Did she actually say that? If she does, she still has hope. But that is just another excuse for her poor judgement prior to the result.

This is why it is unjust and unethical to maintain the current state of affairs.

Singapore needs at least a few more neutral/objective media outlets. The PAP needs to relinquish control over the media, and if it refuses to do so, it should be made to do so.

The WP needs to make a bigger issue out of the media bias because this is a much more important issue than, say, the building of a new market or the construction of more covered linkways.

LKY said more outlets are not profitable for the media industry. So stick to one, his toy. Relinguish control, you must be out of your mind 84 PAP against 7 in parliament. How can that be posisble when every damned PAP self interest is passed as bill like breeze?

We all know local media are all wayang.
Which media in which country in their right mind would go for a full length interview with a loser first,
and then totally ignoring the winner?
What's more it is a known fact DC is not a hot favorite in HC, but an underdog.
It is not as if everyone is caught off guard and shocked that he lost, such that
he is deemed more news worthy of an immediate interview.
If this are to happen in other countries, people will throw stones and question the management of the motive
of the media already.
So much for FAIR REPORTING. hahaha.
