So the PAP did slightly better by having another 145 Hougang residents going to their side. Despite the Yawgate issue, Desmond Choo's 2nd attempt and all the PAP carrots, the Hougang voters stood their ground, staunch supporters of WP.

I salute the people of Hougang. RESPECT!!!

Lower votes for WP despite all the crap dosed out by PAP. Looks like Sinkies die hard fans of punishment.

i look at GE 2011 HG 65% as WP already reaching saturation point there. tonight 62% suggested the middle ground voters overwhelmingly voted for WP again. considering the scandal likely cost WP some votes. this is a very good WP result.

Looks like Png's integrity cockup cost him some votes.

There is a 5% of decrease in the no. of voters since the last GE and only 83% voted. If this 17% had voted, FAP might have lost its deposit.

Special mention for the womenfolk of Hougang. In spite of Yaw saga and Desmond being way more handsome than Png, they still support WP.

If nothing changed since the GE2011, I would subscribe to your views regarding the small variance in percentage of votes.

But additional symptoms surfaced after GE2011, and yet............

Don't know if they need to end up like the middle-aged lady pedestrian kenna knocked down by the bus at sengkang, who thought everything was fine and danity, that she had the right of way...... then these people wakeup.......by then too late leow.

I zip, anyway also no heart to say anymore regarding politics.

It is a happy day for Hougang but a sad day for the PAP. Despite the YSL's issue, desperate attempts to discredit Png, LTK and SL and the party and the slant of the media, a swing of only 2.7% is a very satisfying result for the WP. Without these factors, the swing would likely be in the opposite direction, bad news for the PAP as the groundswell of dissent grows.

For the people of Hougang, they finally get to see lift upgrading as confirmed by DPM Teo, which was implied otherwise during the campaign. They also get to have the candidate and the Party of their choice to work for them in the constituency and to represent them in Parliament. Also Desmond Choo had promised to continue to serve them in the grass-roots organisations. Therefore, they have the best of all the worlds - very smart indeed.

For the people of Singapore, the ball is back in the court of the PAP for them to determine what they need to do to address the problems, the inequalities, that have led to these results. It will definitely be a good thing.

Finally, once and for all, stop insulting the common people of Singapore. Who says someone like them, Png, cannot speak for them and represent them in Parliament? This is a most class discriminating thought in a country trying to move into the First World.
