after looking at a video footage of an accident which occurred at 3am this morning along the Victoria Street & Rochor Road junction, may i strongly suggest that the traffic light between Bugis Village and Bugis Junction be fixed?

this set of traffic light along Victoria Street is less than a hundred meters away from the Rochor Road junction. it leads to confusion when this set of lights are green and the set of traffic light at the Rochor Road junction is showing red to those along Victoria Street (in the direction towards Kallang).

suggestion: get it fixed to show red when the lights at the Rochor Road junction is red (in the direction towards Kallang), only allow it to be green when the lights at the Rochor Road junction turn green (in the direction towards Kallang)

either you folks fix the lights at the junction bridging the Bugis Village and Bugis Junction, or remove it to save some lives.

no. both the Ferrari and this car at this junction beat the red light at this Rochor Road & Victoria Street Junction.

me suspect that the traffic light at the Bugis Village and Bugis Junction could be showing green, which misled these 2 drivers on 2 occasions :o:o:o

bro zhihua, dont blame the traffic lights. the speed limit there only 50kmh, plenty of time to brake. drive at night no traffic does not mean can anyhow speed. it one big 4 lanes straight road, no reason to be caught out. since every drunks like to speed there, the traffic polis shd set up a roadblock there every weekend. time for those lazy bums to start earning their keep.

Before this junction there is a pedestrain light at Bugis Junction.
The one that's is more dangerous at junction of
Kembangan and Changi Road. The old pedestrain crossing
is about a 100m from traffic light, LTA installed another in between.
i.e. traffic light, 50m away a pedestrain crossing another 50m away
another crossing. This road is sloppy towards Kembangan so from the
top it is very confusion to differential which light is green.
LTA waiting for a fatal accident to happen??

Yep. You are suppose to drive below 50kmh and should let go of the accelerator when reaching traffic lights and accelerate again at the last arrow when you can see that you are clear to go. You should know this back when you are in driving school. If you are driving below 50kph, its easy to break.
The Ferrari smashed the whole engine out from the taxi which flew a whopping 30 meters away. There is no way you can see the traffic light and there is no way you can stop at that kind of speed. Even F1 drivers have to shift the gears down quickly before they brake at a turn.

Excellent point.

How many lives does it take for LTA to fix this issue? Tick tock

bro, it could be because they were driving drunk that they made the mistake.
it boils down to recklessness and lack of safety conscious in the end.
the CNA report I am attaching below indicates the "30 year old Singaporean driver of a Lexus was suspected of drunk driving".

Report from CNA

SINGAPORE: A traffic accident involving two cars and a taxi occurred at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street early Saturday morning.

That is the exact location where a Ferrari sports car crashed into a taxi and a motorcycle two weeks ago, killing three persons and injuring two others.

This time, the taxi driver was fortunate as the Lexus collided into the back of his vehicle.

Police said they were alerted to the Saturday incident at 3.15 am.

A video recording showed a Lexus beating the red light at the junction and crashing into the rear of the taxi and another car at 3.15am.

The taxi passenger was sent to the Singapore General Hospital and treated as an outpatient.

The Singaporean driver of the Lexus has been arrested for suspected drink-driving and dangerous driving.

The 30-year-old man was found to have 42 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

This exceeds the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath taken.

Police investigations are still ongoing.

If convicted of drink-driving, he will be disqualified from driving for at least a year.

First-time offenders can be fined between $1,000 and $5,000, or jailed up to six months. Repeat offenders face a fine of up to $30,000 and a maximum three years in jail.

They may also be given six strokes of the cane if the accident results in death or serious injury.

Suggestion to solve the problem of drunk and reckless driving is to make the penalty so severe that they will think twice and thrice before
drinking, driving and speeding.

If they are involved in an accident, lifetime driving ban and jail term.
If they kill or seriously injure somebody, a long jail term.
If their lives are not significantly affected when they significantly affect others' lives, they will just continue.

Knn it's sinkie driver?
Any PRC connection bo? PRC wife? Worked in PRC etc?

The Chinese believe that 7 days after the death of a family member the soul of the departed will return to home. A red plaque with a suitable inscription should be placed at home or the place he passed away. Family and relative members usually visit the site to offer prayers and other necessary requirements to ensure that his soul does not want or get lost.

Ma Chi probably came back

Agree.. I have yet to see TP conducting a road block there.. Usually they conduct their road block operation on the road opposite the ICA building.. Really time for these Traffic poodles to do a road block at the spot where that dead Ah Tiong crashed his Ferarri.. Many Yaya speedsters loves to be like F1 drivers on that stretch of road..

bro, i speculated that the same confusion in lights caused the Ferrari crash in another thread earlier but I don't think they can fixed the lights so that they follow the "green way/lane" theory. This is because this light caters to pedestrians and the other caters to cars and therefore the needs and demands by the users will be very different. Yes, theoratically, it probably can be programmed but in practice, I think it will end up with very ridiculous timings.

I would suggest the following be done:
1) remove the pedestrian lights altogether and have body height barriers to prevent jaywalkers
2) educate the pedestrains to use the rochor road crossing and the overhead bridge at illuma
3) why is there not a direct exit to the Bugis villiage from the MRT station? this needs to be considered. I'm sure our brilliant city planners have reserved land for this from 30 years ago, they just need to make a decision that now is the time to build it.

Strongly agree. The pedestrian light and traffic light at the junction are too close and can cause confusion.

If there is a problem with the traffic light, why does the accidents happen only after midnight? It is the bloody drivers that need to be fixed not the traffic lights.

During the day there are always pedestrians crossing at the junction and at the pedestrian crossing.
I suggest you make a afford to drive there after midnight and you will know what we are talking about.

Whether it is day or night, when a moving car approaches a traffic junction, it must slow down especially at night when visibility is not as good as in the day. By the way, the second driver was reported to be drunk.

Do u drive. Traffic light do program according to timing eg. peak hour/normal hour/midnight.
Program may have problem after midnight.
