HDB flat sizes not shrinking: Khaw Boon Wan

Near my house, there are two blocks that stands side by side.
Block Alpha is those 5 room type, 1 floor 4 unit. (Something like AMK block 700+). Total 20 storeys. Very old flats.
Block Bravo is a newly build BTO, total 30 storeys high. With about 8 units per floor.

Guess what, the length of land being used and height of block is almost the same for both blocks. This is how small our new flats are.

It used to be that the PAP told half lies, which they could defend. Nowadays outright lies seem to be more common.

One thing you can't lie to Sporeans about is housing & car ownership because that is what everyone aspires to

It amazes me that the PAP ministers have been lying thru their teeth without batting an eyelid !
Don't they get toothache or eyesore for telling lies or talking cock in broadlight ?

Contrary to popular belief that the average size of HDB flats has been shrinking steadily over the years, they have remained the same for the past 15 years, said National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
Mr Khaw was responding to a concern raised by a NUS student about shrinking flat sizes at the annual REACH Contributors’ Forum last night.
He reassured Singaporeans that Singapore will not go the way of Hong Kong, where the flats are far smaller.
“There has been this misunderstanding that HDB has shrunk its units in recent years. We have not but we continue to build smaller units and larger units and it is the choice of the consumers,” he said.
Mr Khaw added that some units may be small because it serve some buyers who prefer small homes:
“We have 1.2 million housing units and some could be of that size because there would be people who find it comfortable for their purpose instead of having a big place and finding it very hard and costly to buy and maintain.”
Mr Khaw’s statement appeared to contradict that of HDB CEO Dr Cheong Koon Hean who admitted that the size of HDB flats has shrunk by five to 10 per cent over the last 20 to 30 years.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a housing forum in November 2011, Dr Cheong noted that there were now fewer persons living in one flat which works out to increased living space per person.
“Our families are smaller. In the old days, we have very large families living in a flat. Today, the family is two, three, four (people).”

This is another attempt to blind sight public perception ... using statistic to support an argument!
The truth lays in the point of reference (using the same old trick that MBT did during his reign on affordability)
used in the statistic.

When it was reported by ST in November 2011 that flat size had shrank, the point of reference was
mid 1980's. KBW's new point of reference is mid 1990's!

20 years ago you pay lesser for HDB,
20 years later you pay much more and you GET MUCH LESS, smaller flat!

flats are smaller in size. quality of "living space" lowered. the situation will only get worse as the PAP govt need to build more public housing in our limited land area for the new citizens and PRs coming in.

Omm omm ommm !! $800 salary can buy a flat, $8 can get a heart by pass, nothing have shrunk, only the 60% balls have shrunk, while the rest of the parts have ballooned, hence, the flats size have not shrunk.

Is he lying!, no? ommmmmm!
