Having known her since her teenage years I stll believe her request is born out of honesty and purity with no evilness. However you all had pointed out that it is also laced with legal and moral obligations. For these sit had become a difficult decision to make, one never turn down a genuine friend. Sigh

Have you considered your paternal instincts at work here to father a child, but with no strings attached?
I agree with the viewpoint that a kid should be brought up by both parents. If the kid is a boy, all the more a father-figure is needed.

The baby arrive but is autistic (touch wood). Will you be detached and it is not your problem? Both you and the mother are 1st time parents and sometimes blood type does not match or there is something wrong in the mother's womb. My nephew's kid was born with a partial skull and underwent a major operation which affected her brain and nerves. Now her parents do not want to have another child because it may happen again.
Scenario 2
She married another man and he beats the child. Will it be your problem?
Scenario 3
The child grew up and demand to have his share of your wealth.
Scenario 4
Unexpectedly, the mother passed away(again touch wood). Will the child be sent to an orphanage?
I know you love your dog very much. I think you are not that hardhearted to deny your biological child. I am a parent, so I know what it is like to be one and the responsibility that comes along with it. My 2 cents.
