The story of those early shocking days of the Pacific War when belief in security and comfort from empire collapsed. For the first time this momentous 20th century battle, and its equally dramatic aftermath, will be told from a multi-national perspective, revealing new and challenging insights into a battle that turned the world upside down.

The fall of Singapore in 1942 shattered myths, brought an empire to its knees, and changed the destiny of millions of people.

Singapore is a cosmopolitan world city – an Asian Tiger – that plays a key role in international trade and finance with a population of close to 5 million people. But 70 years ago its citizens suffered one of the most bitter and brutal campaigns of WW2. The fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942 brought an empire to its knees, dramatically changing the destiny of millions of people. It was a crushing defeat that unleashed national Asian independence movements, and Asian, Australian and British aspirations were never the same.

Shot in key locations, the documentary includes first-hand accounts of events from surviving soldiers, airmen and nurses from the front line. Fundamental to the documentary are civilian Malaysian and Singaporean eyewitnesses.

I am unable to open the link. I think I watched it two or three weeks ago on History or Discovery Channel.

My dad was nine years old in Sg when the Zeros bombed Singapore and Jap troops landed in Kota Baru. Took them only two or three month to cycle down the peninsula and cross the strait with little resistance. I remember my dad telling me the Jap soldiers, some shorter than the rifles they held, marched the captured British troops to Changi Prison. From that time, the idea that the Brits were their superiors dissappeared. In that sense, Japan liberated Asia.

    Cheer!

I don't think they were Zero fighters lah. Because if you want to bomb a city hard, you need more bombs, so it had to be a bomber, NOT a naval fighter for sneak attack on a carrier.

The Ki-21 had more than one Allied codename. Initially called "Jane", the name was quickly changed to "Sally" when General Douglas MacArthur objected that the name was the same as that of his wife.
