Only early Feb now but the rains are already gone it seems.

It is now high wind and hot sun with rather clear sky. In weeks the plants and grass will dry up and bush fire will come.

SCDF better stand by.

Also sweating seaon mean gout attacks to those guys with high uric acid. The only way is to drink lots of water and make sure that you pee more than sweat. Or else you limb to the doctors.:p

I vividly remember the heavy downpours during the beginning of last year... But its has been very hot and dry so far this year.. I'm even perspiring when inside the office.. Even worse when I went to the various shipyards to accompany my Boss.. A General worker in my company fainted when he's doing maintenance work on a vessel.. Better drink alot of plain water during this hot season.. I'm avoiding the temptation to gulp soft drinks during working hours.. Not that I'm too health conscious, but I'm bit uncomfortable with all the sugar that comes with the soft drinks.. If only there is winter in Spore..:p

Hope your gouty toe is better these days.

In the last 10 years or so I changed my diet to avert gout quite effectively.

Uric acid can be effectively purged by a mild alkaline diet, basic chemistry. Acid met alkaline and react into water + salt and get pee out in urine. My gout toe shrinks to nearly normal, the rheumatologist discharged my case from SGH specialist clique in about 2010. That meant I am recovered or healed.

It was due to my past job travelling everywhere and over-eating over-drinking in many countries and living in hotels more than home, and flying like air crew, never got proper rest. Those days I got gout attacks all the time and carried those medicine to fly around.:p When the uric acid gets more concentrated in my body the medicine (anti-inflame etc) became ineffective. During 1st few times a doze of diclofenac sodium will knock off the swell and pains within 20 mins. But as I continued to take 3 inch juicy steaks & beer even steroid course could only get rid of pains & swells more than 1 week after attacks. :*::p

Fortunately I learned. My makan motto now is stuffs are easy to take into our bodies but very hard to remove, some harmful stuffs will never be removed and remain in our corpses. So unless you are sure that it is good for your body never put it in your mouth, especially just only because you like the taste. Good tasty food are mostly unhealthy food, healthy food usually taste SUCKS.:(

After spending 10 years healing that, I became gout expert helping friends and family members to treat gout. So the current climate is very gout prone climate as you sweat and dry up in the strong wind, you don't feel really hot to make yourself drink more water. As a result you pass little urine, and your uric acid level shoots up. This acid never get out via sweating skin and for men it can only get out by either pee or (NKF) dialysis, for women uric acid can get out via menstrual blood.

Weather like this week many people will not drink a whole lot of water because wind is still cool but sun is strong, so they sweat most of the water away instead of pee away. Uniquely this will cause uric acid level to shoot up. This acid is very hurtful as it deposits into your old injury (damaged) spots and joints like toes and fingers, it gets swelling red hot and tender and pain like hell, felt like injuries. They can travel with blood causing allergic reactions everywhere. Their crystals are gout stones causing rheumatoid and kidney stones.

In most lethal cases can attack heart muscles & brain causing strokes.

One of my toughest job before my NS was a shipyard welder. Sweat job really. And dangerous. Those days safety were slack and hazards were high. Ships under construction can be very dark and full of scrap metals. To pass the arc welding cables I some times walk into unfamiliar areas and suddenly see the dark wall glow red (someone else welding on the other side of that steel - you can not see!) some time this could be the floor you walk or lay your welding cable or acetylene+oxygen lines! So you face risk to get blasted up! I took that job because pay was good and the Siong-ness warmed me up for BMT.

Today's shipyard works are mostly filled up by FTs.:(

For those with gout, the condition usually triggered by too much purine intake, which the body metabolizes to uric acid. To reduce purine, you are indeed following the right course of action, which is to reduce meat intake.

Check out this page for sources of purine which you should avoid or minimize in your diet: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purine

Don't forget also to reduce seafood, caffeine and alcohol, because all these also cause uric acid production.

my doc bans me from:

sardines
mackarel
durian - which i refuse hee ...

for gout...is it true?

There is a long list and full of debates on them. Various kinds of food proteins combined with different other non-protein diets can break down protein in our body differently (not at the same speed) and react with different body conditions. So not all the same food gets the same effects. I had to abandon most of my favourite yummy food and yet not entirely sure which one I can take without compromising my objective of reducing acid level. Occasionally I will make one greedy exception. e.g. a nice mutton dish.

Eventually it became a diet habit change or ordering convention or culture. E.g. the regular-faces coffee shop employees these days knows that I want tea instead of coffee, it used to be the other way 10 years ago. Coffee is acidic to our blood, tea is alkaline. For uric acid crystals they will dissolve and reduce in size when blood gets higher pH (alkaline) they increase in size when pH is lower or acidic. When their crystal size gets 2-3µm or above, they are larger than our blood cells and kidney are unable to remove them regardless of how much water you drink. Unless of course your gout stone already torn your kidney tissue and you are peeing blood, then some of the big acid crystal comes out with your blood.

That condition is very dangerous especially for men because what ever protein breaks into uric acid from then on are LOCKED in your body once kidney are unable to remove them. It can only deposit as gout stones everywhere. They will remain in your corpse finally and until then you live as a very serious rheumatism case.:(:*:

The only reverse is a diet change to help your blood pH goes a bit above 7, and in prolonged period the uric acid crystal melt to smaller sizes (at least smaller than blood cells) and healthy kidney can throw them out in your urine. This process took many years for me. I found my stiff joints and muscles gradually loosen and returned to original state gout stone in toe disappearing gradually. Once you are on this course after a certain stage you are able to feel this recovery.

I may be wrong but I now believe that acidic bodies are more resistant to cold temperature (winter) and react badly uncomfortable when it is warm (summer). Basic alkaline bodies the opposite reactions. This is the change I felt, but not conclusive.

Yes it is actually all about a balance. We all have purine and uric in our bodies. But ability to remove them need to be in balance against the production of these wastes. If they don't get out we get sick & pains.:p

The weather has gone haywire. Two days ago it was -20c in Munich and -7c in southern England which was the lowest in a long time.
