Man fined $16k for false MOM declaration of workers' salaries

An assistant sales manager at an employment agency lied on a Ministry of Manpower (MOM) declaration form, stating that four foreign workers would earn between $1,800 and $2,500 monthly in order for them to obtain various work passes.

However, the company that hired the workers only paid each of them $900 monthly.

Andy Nelson Ng Mui Shee, 35, was fined $16,000 for four charges of contravening the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act. Some 23 similar charges were taken into consideration in the sentencing.

The court heard that in early 2009, his company was tasked to arrange for foreigners to work as cleaner supervisors for two companies - Sun Blues Cleaning Maintenance and TY Enterprise. Both companies are located in the same premises and have a common administrative manager - Ms Thenkumari Shanmugam Packirisamy.
