In the Chinese Astrology Calendar, the first day of the Water Dragon Year is February 4, 2012, because February 4th, 2012 is the first day of Tiger Month in Chinese Astrology Calendar system. Although, the Chinese New Year Day of 2012 is on January 23, 2012. It's 12 days early then the first day of the astrology calendar in 2012.

There is a very common misconception that the astrology animal signs begin on the Chinese New Year day in many people's mind. Actually, the Astrology animal signs begin from the Start of Spring (立春), the first day of the Chinese astrological year.

The fundamental difference is that Chinese New Year is based on lunar calendar while Chinese Zodiac is based on Solar Terms.

The Lunar New Year usually occurs in the first two weeks of February, but occasionally occurs in the last week of January or the 3rd week of February. Due to the close time frame, it has been a tradition to welcome and celebrate the next Zodiac Animal during the Chinese New Year festival. So it can be confusing when a baby is born right after the Chinese New Year but before Start of Spring, because in this case, the prior year Zodiac Animal is still in effect, literally “at the tail end of the animal”

Important Note:-

For those wishing for a Dragon Baby ... better inform your doctor (now!) to delay delivery till 4th February 2012, else you get a Rabbit!

Kuala Lumpur (The Star/ANN) - Certain dates in 2012 will not be auspicious for giving birth, a geomancy master has told China Press.

According to Chinese astrology, this is the year of the Dragon and many Chinese have joined in the rush, hoping to give birth to a "dragon baby" as it is viewed as an auspicious symbol.

Malaysian Institute of Geomancy Sciences (MINGS) founder Prof David Koh said every animal had its good and bad points.

"Not all Dragon babies are successful in life. It mainly depends on their date of birth," he said.

For this year, from the first month to the fifth month and the 11th month of the Chinese calendar are considered good months for giving birth.

However, children born on certain dates are prone to autism.

The dates are March 22, 23, 28 and 29; April 1, 2, 7, 8, 11, 12, 17, 18, 21-28; May 1, 2, 7, 8, 11, 12, 17, 18, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 31.

Other dates which are not so good are June 1, 6, 7, 10, 11, 16 and 17; Oct 22 and 23; Nov 1, 2, 11, 12, 21 and 22; Dec 1, 2, 11 and 12.
