Most money changers in JB can give 1:3 even for small amount change.
But some are willing to give up to 1:3.05 for large amount like my friend got for S$8,000

Correct. Just like what CIMB quoting now 3.0004

Not 3.04 ya.

As you can see, even CIMB internet banking can quote 1:3.004!
Money changers are usually more aggressive especially when they are speculating that RM is falling.
It was 1:3.05 in JB yesterday, negotiable for large amount near Pelangi Mall.

Swiss freeze millions amid Malaysian 1MDB fund probe

X

ZURICH, Sept 2*(Reuters) - Swiss authorities said on Wednesday they had frozen funds in Swiss banks amid a probe into people linked to Malaysia's troubled state investment fund, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), on suspicion of corruption and money laundering.

"The Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) has frozen assets amounting to several tens of millions of U.S. dollars on Swiss bank accounts," an OAG spokeswoman said by email in response to an enquiry.

No need MC rate; try DBS Malaysia Remit... I just remitted at 3.0376. At the moment, there are no fees and the bank will take 1 day to transfer the funds.

Is it a transfer from DBS in SG to Malaysia account? Need to activate the service?
Yes, transfer from DBS SG to a Malaysia bank account. No need to activate and the transfer can be executed online by login into your DBS/POSB account and select Transfer to Overseas Account, Remit to Malaysia.

Dunno how they can offer so good; but you can check the rate in the POSB/DBS account before you transfer

Can you confirm if the amount credited to the account in Ringgit is exactly the amount you remitted using DBS Remit? ie will the bank in Malaysia deduct any fee before crediting the funds? Thanks

I perform the transfer around 4.50pm yesterday with the rate of RM1=S$0.3292 and I just checked; confirmed full amount is in without any deductions. The DBS portal will ask for the foreign currency that you want to transfer and then show you how much SGD will be deducted from the DBS bank account.

Therefore, the highest rate so far is 3.0376

Thanks for sharing and heads up on DBS Remit and other information. Apart from the excellent exchange rate, it beats the convenience of having to go to the MC and most of all, having to bring the ringgit over the causeway.

Let;s hope we can continue to enjoy the No Service Charge promo and to receive the full remittance at the Malaysian banks.
