New year's eve dinner at a traditional thai restaurant at outskirts Bkk. Chef is a celeb on local telly cooking shows, khun Supata (what do I know?:p). But bestest

All wood structure, with tables using old Singer sewing machines

Fresh prawns

Tamarind seafood soup

Traditional pad thai

Mango, not yellow sweet type. Looks hard but soft and delectable to taste

Drove up 160km to Khao Yai. Normally under 2 hrs, but kena 5-6hrs snail pace from Bkk due to new year exodus up country :(

Did western cuisine at a laid back, small restaurant Norbert's Home. Simple, small menu (unlike usual wide range thai restaurant). Polish owner, chef (thai staff said 'police ':p). Fantastic food, with sausages for takeaway. Only open weekends and chef cut his teeth in London. Recommended

PS: Pls excuse pics quality, no fight with techie gizmos here:biggrin:

House special pork belly and sausage

Jah this is in Bangkok which part? Insomnia sounds like an discotheque in Pattaya's walking street. Your drink really looks pathetic.
Its at suk Soi 12 I think. It's a club famous for women of the night and it used to be called insomnia. They serve great food there, western selection is fantastic. The drink pissed me off I was shocked it was so little ask the waitress she could not understand.

i respect Indonesian Muslim, they eat pork and drink alcohol.. Fuck care their Allah...nice one!!!!

Most Balinese are Hindus so they are not restricted to eating pork and drinking alcohol however from my many encounters with Indonesian Muslims I respect their openness to non Muslims just like those Singapore Muslims 20-30 years ago.

Johnny, Kuta is like the busiest place here in Bali with roads always jam and tourists busy shopping from the many shops surrounding Kuta.

So its very convenient for visitors. I am still enjoying my New Year holiday here today and leaving for Jakarta tomorrow and this location is best for the celebrative season.

This is a morning scene from my room's balcony, slow traffic.

Now Johnny, if you are here in Bali for a quiet time at the beach then I wish to show you these two photos I took yesterday

The entire beach is lined with pile after pile of rubbish as far as your eyes can see. The public beach is dirty the water is not clear and filled with people hustling you to buy something and massages.

Nisa Dua will be a great place to stay if you like to relax with your own hotel private beach but its a distance from Kuta. Traffic can be hell here in Bali, last night's ride to a bar which is less than 8lm away took us almost 45mins.

Heard so much about Bali & want to check the place out myself. The problem is that there are so many hotels & I prefer hotels within walking distance to the attractions because Indonesian taxis & buses can be a pain.

Not looking for relaxation or the Spa experience which many resorts & hotels are pushing. I am more of a walk around & explore type of tourist:smile: At least for my first visit.

In Indonesia the only taxi one can trust is from Blue Bird company when they will use meter and not cheat or negotiate. The others no meter for sure.
