Well, another Hakka lady may soon take charge of S'pore as well. Remember during the PE campaigning, Tony Tan said it won't be long before a woman becomes the President. No prizes for guessing who the Hakka lady is, but for those who are still clueless, her photo always comes up in the midst of any discussion of chio ladies.

Next month Jan 14, 2012

Taiwan shall has a new president

She is now in the midst of a corruption scandal which have become the main topic of the election now. Her fortune will very much depends on whether that 14% undecided voters buy into her story that she was flamed.

She was pocketing lots of money from unfair business practice and she dared to challenge Ma on charge of corruption. For that case, Ma was investigated and verdict cleared him out to be clean. And during that time, DPP, her party was leading the governement with bluddy Bian as president. She was trying to pull a fast one by tying her case together with Ma's case to make her case appear above law and unquestionable. She lacks the moral ethics. For important office bearers like President, ethics is important. Ma is one of the most squeaky clean guys who values image more than his life. This lady is rotten on the inside. She should know better than to fight head on with Ma on cleaniness and ethics.

Yeah, survey results show her support is dropping. Hooray!!!

Most exit polls in Taiwan are not trustworthy especially those announced by DPP. The only exception being the one conducted by TVBS which accurately predicted the 2008 presidential result. Their latest poll as of 23/12 indicate Ma 42%, Tsai 35%. Because public perception view TVBS as pro blue, hence the result will be biased towards the blue which affect it accuracy. In order to offset this, the initial result will need to go through moderation through the process of discriminant analysis. The moderated result for TVBS is Ma 48% Tsai 46% which places the result within the range for margin of error.

She is really bad. She was playing evasive games and irresponsibly accuse others but she was unable to explain herself clearly. She is not as clean as her contender, in terms of character and ethics. As for competency, I do not remember she had done any thing that is worthy. She took over DPP and had the chance to clean and re-align the party's value and image, but being a short-sighted opportunist, refused to do a clean break and condemn Ah Bian, and simply because she wanted to gain the support of Ah Bian's hardcore and blind supporters. DPP is rotten to the core with her in that as long as any one of their party members is pro-independent and anti-China, they will close all eyes to all the morally corrupt deeds he or she does.

True, and in view of the close margin and factor that with margin of error, it appears to be almost on par. I think the number of hardcore blue and green supporters are almost equal and is reflected in the polls. The only decisive piece is the fence-sitters who are watching carefully the candidates' debates that have been going on. But I think MA, being a 3.5yrs president, has brought some positive results to his advantage to convince the people while Tsai can only spin impractical promises with no substantial records to back herself up.

Ma greatest weakness was he tried to please everyone. Hence you find him apologised over slightest issues even on matters that he isn't responsible for. Plus the fact he went all out to please those in the pan green camp because he wanted to be a president for ALL Taiwanese. But those in the pan green will never vote for him no matter how hard he tries. Worse still, it further piss off his own pan blue supporters who felt betrayed and many vowed not to vote in this election. In the end, Ma pleases no one.. For this reason, even if the base supporters of both camp are the same, Ma still loses because the turnout rate for his supporters will be lower than DPP. So Ma's fate not only depend on the fence sitters, but also how he manages to fire up his supporters to turn up to vote.

Ma isn't really a competent leader, his indecisiveness and stupidity are rather obvious.

Cross strait relation is his greatest strength. But for the fear of being accused as pro china and avoid offending the pan green supporters (who won't vote for him anyway), he didn't fully utilise this issue which is the greatest handicap of his opponent.

Instead he chooses to play up his whiter than white kind of honesty. This isn't really a plus point. It the most basic attribute that a politician must have.

He was trying to play the nice man to heal the political divide that has polarised Taiwanese society for so long. Again, he is stubborn and stupid, in not knowing that the rift and mental intoxication of whatever ideology and perception these supporters have is beyond redemption, especially the hardcore ones. Whatever he is trying to do is like trying to make the world into one super-big and homogeneous country. Ma sailed in at a good timing effortlessly to take the presidential seat when the people were sick of corruption and wanted badly someone who was clean to replace Ah Bian then. This time, he could well be lucky as the opposition candidates were not strong either. Cross-strait is Ma's his biggest strength. And Tsai was unable to make a good explanation on how she will engage China except to say that she would explore new markets outside of China. Analysts found her views not practical with US still in slumps and the grim prospects of Europe's economy sinking in 2012. Fence-sitters belong to a group that transcend party and color, and whoever can bring wealth and prosperity to the country's economy to help people secure a good livelihood is the one.

TVBS is pro blue because the government under Ah Bian's DPP once wanted to shut them down.
They are not that pro blue in reality, note the way they bashed the KMT government when shit happened to the people during typhoon, etc, but they are biased towards KMT because they hate DPP.
TVBS also likes to see themselves as "fighters for the people and supporters of the weak and oppressed".

Confirmed. Double Confirmed. LKY mentioned this at a National Day Rally when announcing getting a new daughter-in-law after the first wife of his eldest son died. LKY was proudly telling the whole of S'pore her positive attributes among which was that she's Hakka, a dialect group renowned for resilence against adversities and hard-working lot. I remember many S'poreans were reacting negatively to this, not against her being a Hakka, but asking what has a National Day Rally which is to address the issues faced by the nation got to do with the Old Man picking a new daughter-in-law?

Ma is indecisive and arrogant, but he is not corrupt and I believe he really wants to make the country better. He is the lesser of the evils.

Tsai is so evasive with her answers on key issues that it makes us wonder what she will be like when she is in power.
Already people are concerned about politicians who can spin a good tale and say the right things but can't deliver.
Can u imagine voting for someone who is already spinning bullshit even before she is in power?
Her typical answers to questions on key issues are "I will consider this" or "I have already answered this previously" or "This is not relevant to our discussion".
