Unfortunately in Singapore, the government cannot function unless the rules are formalized. Take even a simple case of determining meritocracy. You might think it is a very subjective thing deciding whether a person is good or bad or if you want to make it more objective, look at his achievements but no, even that is too subjective. Inevitably, it falls back on his academic achievements. Here then you find something very objective and measurable, whether it is relevant or not that is not important.

Yes, everything is formalised, SOPs written and followed..that's the flaw of the SG system. Staff are not encouraged to exercise initiative

The only one among the current pap mps is Lily, but she is too small a fry and also she is aware of her limits and boundaries.
She is also focused on only one aspect of society and that is helping needy people, possibly due to her medical background.
Proper governance by good men and women is much more than just that.

There are other pappy mps I don't really object to, people like Jessica and Alvin, but the rest are mostly yucks............

As for the second question, they may eventually listen, if they see the tide turning aganist them quickly and they are losing their foothold.
Frankly, I have doubts about opposition party members too, they need to prove themselves over time.

that's true..perhaps her compassion for the poor showed through. so, even if she can be Minister, MCYS, LHL may not want her to be minister, otherwise he will have to stop her fighting for bigger assistance for the poor. LHL prefers men like VB who wld not ask for increases of help for the poor. VB in MCYS makes life easier for LHL

I think there maybe some PAP Mps who have compassion for the poor. But because that's not PAP's intent, they cant rise up to higher office.

So what shd these MPs do? one way is, if they cant do anything for the people within the pap, to get out and help out of the pap
