Crane arm smashes into car on the PIE

A crane arm smashed into a car this morning on the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE).
The accident happened at about 10.40am near the Paya Lebar exit on the PIE towards Tuas.
A family of three were in the car during the accident, a 36-year-old interior designer, his wife, and their baby between six to eight months old.
No major injuries were reported as the passengers were in the back seat when the crane arm smashed through the windscreen and ripped into the front passenger seat.
A witness, Mr Tham (age 60) said he saw the lorry-mounted crane arm hit the overhead bridge, break off, and fly into the car following behind the lorry.
Another witness, Mr Wang (52, car mechanic) believes that the lorry driver had neglected to retract the crane arm properly, causing it to hit the overhead bridge.
Passenger Ms Chen Shu Fen (31, salesperson) was in shock when reporters spoke to her later on at the hospital.
She said, "My husband was returning to his office to get some documents. We were thinking of going shopping when this happened."
Police are investigating the car accident.
