A man plunged to his death this morning when police showed up at his house to question him.

Two plainclothes policemen visited Huang Jia Wei (age 32) in the wee hours of the morning today at his home located at Blk 11, Holland Drive.

Huang's sister had opened the door for the policemen, who entered to speak with the man. After a few words, Huang asked if they could continue their talk later in the day. The policemen refused and insisted on speaking with Huang.

Huang responded by opening his door, dashing out to the corridor and going over the parapet of the thirteen floor to plunge to his death.

He was pronounced dead at 5.25am today.

A neighbour Ms Li (30s, service worker) described to reporters that she heard loud voices from outside her house at about 5am this morning. Barely five minutes later, she heard a loud noise like a "bang".

Another neighbour Mr Zeng (50s) told reporters that two women and a man had come to look for Huang at about 2am this morning. "They spoke for about six to seven minutes. I don't know if they were police officers but they carried identification."

Neighbours also revealed that Huang's family, consisting of Huang, his father and two sisters, had been staying there for more than 20 years. It is not clear what Huang worked as but neighbours noticed that he leaves for work at about 10am every day and returns at about 6pm.

A police spokesperson said that the officers had approached Huang regarding an investigation on illegal moneylending activities. It is believed that Huang had worked as a loanshark runner prior to his death.
