SINGAPORE: Tangs Market in Orchard Road had to unexpectedly put a stop to its business on Monday after sewage water flooded the basement of Tangs Plaza.

A nearby sewage water pipe had burst, in an area undergoing renovation works.

It is understood that when the water pipe burst, dirty water started flooding the area in front of the store. Sandbags have since been placed to prevent the water from flowing in.

Less than 20 people were in the store at that time and they were asked to leave while the vendors, mainly selling food and drinks, cleared all their items in 30 minutes.

Channel NewsAsia understands that staff also sprayed air freshener on every floor of the store. The smell also affected those above ground, where cleaning works were in full swing.

TANGS market will remain close on Tuesday and the clean up is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

Tangs Plaza has apologised for the inconvenience it has caused to its customers.

This comes less than two weeks after a similar incident in ION Orchard.
