Personally, I would prefer to go to a nearby dirt track and watch the local teenagers do the whoop-de-doops on their dirt bikes, but money talk. Sad.

There are many good and capable drivers for the teams to pick from , but alas like one forummer mentioned, F1 is elitist - and so the selections are from a group of well connected people (eg. Schumacher). And it is the car, not the driver that determines the champ for the year. The whole F1 thing - it is a show. Contest second.

That's why I'd rather select 400cc (or 125, 250) modified street bikes as my choice for motorsports.

The F1 of yesteryear can't compare with todays'. In those days one car could be way better than others, the heroic manourves by Aryton Senna is very much like a Red Bull overtaking Lotus today, ie adult vs child. Gay bikers like Clinton666 obviously cannot understand this.

Engineering is so advanced these days there are very little differences between the ability of the Maclarens, RBRs and Ferraris. The only difference is some cars are better in straight line whereas some takes corners better. RBR has yet to get both their KERS and DRS to work smoothly compared to Maclaren or Ferrari. Ferraris are great in straight line but pales in corners. Maclaren appears to be an all rounder.

Because the engineering of the cars are almost on par... it is the driver that makes the difference. F1 has never been more exciting than what we are seeing in 2010 and 2011 because we have 3 drivers who are strong contenders to winning the championship - Lewis, Vettel and Alonso. The entire team is tense whenever any of these 3 are behind your car, you can't even make a single slip of 0.5 secs. The car is engineered to the limit and driven to the limit by these drivers. Some of the laps are "perfect" ie. it is humanly impossible to achieve a better lap time without screwing up. Vettel has been winning because he is really really gifted and is one hell of a fighter. Lewis comes very close while Alonso is not too far away. But Vettel just have that extra guts or perhaps RBR is engineered to suit most circumstances hence the high win rate of RBR+Vettel combination.

Whoever that says today's F1 can't compare to the 80s don't have a clue about auto racing.

All competitive F1 drivers are capable of winning races. The cars, strategy and teamwork are the factors that influence which driver is at the front of the grid on race day. The Mclaren was superior to the Williams at the time. The Honda engine was the best, no one could beat Mclaren.. Schumacher won because his Ferrari was faster than everyone else. Today Redbull is faster than Alonso or Hamilton.

Its a technological game you horse's ass.
