No expense spared for ‘daughter’ living in style

A COUPLE in Singapore with no children are treating their pet dog Little Snow like their own daughter, reported China Press.

They feed it with good food, enrol it in social classes, take it to the spa and even to the Buddhist temple to join in their prayers.

Identified only as Liu, in his 40s and working in the publishing industry, the dog’s owner said he and his wife love three-year-old Little Snow like their own daughter.

To ensure it has a comfortable life, Liu said he buys for the dog organic vegetables and fish and sends it to salon and spa sessions every month.

They spend as much as S$500 (RM1,150) a month for these purposes as well S$400 (RM920) for the dog to “learn to socialise” by enrolling the dog in a training class, which is a 10-week hour-long session.

“We cook for the dog. A veterinarian told me it will not take dog food anymore once it is given cooked food,” said Liu.

Since they are Buddhists, the couple also take the dog to the temple from time to time “to seek blessings so that it will not be reborn as a dog in its next life”.

Another dog lover, retiree Lan Ping Chang, 59, said all his family members love dogs.

Besides dried food, he would buy organic vegetables, pumpkins, potatoes and brown rice to ensure his pet dog has enough nutrition.

He also shared his fish liver oil, bone and joint supplements and grape glucose drink with the dog.

Nothing so shocking, i am a dog lover and i know of many couples who have no children but have lots of dogs. Dogs by the way don't talk back and need no tuition and they'll love you all the same, children on the other hand..

If they happened to have a child, the dog is going to end up in spca.
I have also seen this happen many times.

Yes thats true, my aunty adopted a dog that was 'given' out by her previous owner. The couple had a baby after they got her and when the child started getting all sorts of sickness they blamed the dog and leashed her outside the flat. The dog is a happy dog and thankfully not traumatised by this incident, their loss is our gain

When raw feeding, what you see is what you get. There are no hidden ingredients, no fillers. All the mystery is taken out of your dog’s meals. A raw diet is composed of the same food you eat, but as it suggests, nothing is cooked. Well, I don’t know many people who eat bones, but for the most part, raw food is human food.

Dogs in the wild did not have little cooked pellets that contained cooked vegetables and grains (or cooked meat, for that matter), thus their systems are not made for digesting these ingredients. A raw diet is a direct evolution of what dogs ate before they became our pets.

Some pet owners who have made the switch have noticed drastic changes in their pets, including:

•Shinier, healthier skin
•Fresher breath/cleaner teeth
•Improved digestion
•Improvement with allergy symptoms
•Decreased shedding
•Increased stamina
•Firmer, smaller stools
•A general increase in overall health

When discussing raw feeding you'll often hear people talking about RMB's, which stands for Raw Meaty Bones. A raw meaty bone is a bone with a *lot* of meat on it that is consumable. Yes, a dog can eat (and will enjoy eating) the entire bone. No, the bone is not going to splinter; those canines will be put to good use grinding bones up.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Cooked bones run the risk of splintering- NEVER feed cooked bones!

A dog on a raw diet will need a variety of different meats in order to reap the benefits that each protein provides; for example one type of meat may be higher in iron, while another may be higher in vitamin A. This is why a rotating diet is recommended in order to maintain a healthy raw diet.

A note on bacteria: This was one of my concerns when we starting looking into the raw option. Raw meat is not safe for humans because of bacteria like e-coli and Salmonella. But, canine digestive systems are have some natural immunity to bacteria, and can handle the bacteria in meat without issue, when in good overall health.

In addition to meat, include vegetables, eggs, fruit, yogurt, etc. Eggs, like bones, are a good source of calcium, so are good to use when you don’t have bones. Pumpkin is a good system regulator, so we keep that on hand for most meals. There are countless good foods to give your dog, once you start looking! Grains, however, are completely unnecessary- since commercial pet foods are always grain-based diets, many people are used to the idea that their dogs need grain. It’s just not true. Some of the positive effects of feeding raw are related to eliminating grain from your dog’s diet.

try changing to raw diet for your dogs ...you will be amazing by the result ....go and goggle on raw food for your dogs and you will understand what i mean ....

i would not mind feeding my dogs raw food, afterall they were genetically evolved and programmed to eat meat and not nonsensical dog food and treats, unfortunately i cannot get past well meaning but unwilling parents

The Current Myth List which older people fall for them ....:wink::rolleyes:
Dogs are omnivores

Wolves eat the stomach contents of prey

Dogs are too far removed from wolves to be fed a raw diet

Dogs have adapted to cooked diets

Dogs live longer today because of commercial foods

Wolves have shortened lifespans because of their diet

Millions of dogs safely eat commercial foods, so why feed raw?

Raw diets are not balanced

Bacteria in raw meat is dangerous to my pet

My pet will get parasites from the raw meat

Raw-fed dogs pose a serious health risk to humans

Raw diets vs. the AAFCO standards

There is no scientific research to validate raw diets

Feeding raw meat makes a dog bloodthirsty

I am not knowledgeable enough to make my dog's food

Raw diets are not very digestible

Raw diets are inconvenient and expensive

Different breeds of dogs need different diets

Because of the risks of bones, ground raw diets are better

Plenty of premium kibbles are available, so raw is unnecessary

Home-made, cooked diets are viable alternatives to raw

Vets are thoroughly qualified to dispense nutritional advice

Small dogs and toy breeds cannot eat raw diets

Carbohydrates are necessary in dog's diet

these people should have their income tax double. PAP should add pet taxes for those who have no kids and waste their money on pets.

I guess with emotional attachment to the pet it's difficult to put a price on it. However bringing pets to religious ceremonies is alittle over the board.

Recently my 12 years old silky terrier was sick and lucky for me I am in Bangkok as the medical fees are much cheaper here than in Singapore but still so far since October I had spent about SGD12k on her condition which are seizures, bacteria and gut problem. And till today she still has to go to the hospital 3 times a day for injections and the costs I mentioned is from the hospital bill only. What can I do? There is no choice. She is not suffering but without the treatment she will be in pain. No choice la, 12 years already you know?
