(SINGAPORE) The Red Dot Museum was awash in red - Ferraris, that is. Last Saturday afternoon, Ferrari owners and well-heeled prospects sped down to Maxwell Road with exhausts screaming to view the new Ferrari California convertible.

<TABLE class=picBoxL cellSpacing=2 width=100 align=left><TBODY><TR><TD> </TD></TR><TR class=caption><TD>Fast cars, beautiful people: The Ferrari California on display at Red Dot Museum on Saturday </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>New Ferrari distributor Ital Auto had invited them to a gala brunch and the more than 500 guests who turned up were also entertained by a fashion show as they sipped Mumm champagne and nibbled on canapes.
Ferrari's top management was also present and Amedeo Felisa, CEO of Ferrari SpA, and Marco Mattiacci, CEO of Ferrari Asia-Pacific, were joined by the Ferrari Formula One team drivers Kimi Raikkonen and Giancarlo Fisichella.
In his speech, Ital Auto managing director Teo Hock Seng promised to look after the 'special interests' of Ferrari customers as he takes the Italian super sports car brand to 'a higher level'. Mr Teo said that Mr Felisa had asked him about Ital Auto's commitment to the prancing horse.
In reply, the flamboyant Mr Teo, who has been in the car business for 23 years, said that for the Ferrari business, he has done something that he has never done before - put his mobile telephone number on his name card so that owners may have a direct line to him at any time.
The move may have brought results already. Over the weekend, five people put down a 10 per cent deposit for the California, which has a list price of $798,000. The 2+2 hardtop convertible has 4.3-litre V8 engine in front and zips from zero to 100 kmh in under four seconds.
According to Mr Felisa, the California is designed for everyday driving. He added that those who prefer something more hardcore can look forward to the upcoming 458 Italia mid-engined sports car that made its debut at the Frankfurt motor show earlier this month.
Ital Auto takes over from Hong Seh Motors, which had been associated with the brand in Singapore since 1982. The new Ferrari importer is a subsidiary of Komoco Motors, which distributes Harley Davidson, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Hyundai. It is majority-owned by hotelier and Formula One race promoter Ong Beng Seng.
The new Ferrari showroom and workshop are located at Leng Kee Road. They occupy the entire rear section of the large Komoco Motors building on 253 Alexandra Road.

I say this is a class of super rich people because $800K not only buy a pee hole but a private condo. To put $800K in a car, you are super rich

When you can afford a ferrari, either you got private driver to jaga or yu valet. Scatched car is a commoner problem.

Agree. That's a valid point. But most people would drive their Ferrari rather than having a driver, it is not that Ferrari is a Rolls Royce or Mercedes Benz.

Alot of them are young punks who dont even know how to handle the machine.

Do people actually target ferrari's to scratch? I thought they only target brands they hate... like WRX

Wow! Boomz! Shout! These people are not just super rich but filthy rich! It's obscene!

I've got a theory that people's car value is at least equal to their annual income. Say, for example, a $150k annual income guy has a Merc C class, so these fellas who bought the Farraris are at least $800k annual income type.

Minitoots with $$million annual incomes of cos will have multiple cars

Exception to my theory is of cos the pea-brains who can't spend within their means.

Indonesians dont think about where they spend cos it's their country's money that they rip off to spend. Now we have some keilengs, and other FTs' that are dirty residing here. Go figure who the buyers are.

Whenever i see a driver of such cars, only 2 out of 10 are legit. The rest are questionable. Behind every fortune is a CRIME. So do not envy these people.

people that made their money the hard way, will never plonk down money so wastefully. People like me know the true value of money. Even $300K for a merc already heart pain. But what to do. need to do business leh.

But I for one likes to be driven around by others in any car that I choose to buy for myself.

Me no ferrari expert, but photo looks like a 2 seater. If you insist on having a driver, you might want to hire a cha boh driver, not unless you play gay

I beg to differ. Your theory only applies to the not-so-rich. The wealthy ones spend only a tiny fraction of their incomes on their ferraris. The rest are paying through their noses.
