Based on the latest Household Expenditure Survey conducted in 2012/13, the Average Household Expenditure on Basic Needs (AHEBN) for a four-person household was about S$1,250.

The AHEBN is an estimate of how much households spend per month on essential needs such as food, clothing and shelter.

This was revealed in Parliament by Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry Lee Yi Shyan on Monday (May 11), in response to a request by Non-Constituency Member of Parliament Gerald Giam for an update.

The data used to compile the AHEBN is primarily from the Household Expenditure Survey (HES), which is conducted once every five years.

The HES does not collect information on whether households include people with disabilities, he added. Also, the AHEBN is also not available for other household types besides household size.

I am inclined to agree with you. But morons have no class at all; not even 3rd class. To compound matters, most of the cleaners we have here are all sickly old folks who still cannot afford to retire.

$1250 a month is plenty of money for a family of four. The money can last a longer time if the kids do not insist on getting the latest handphone models or the parents feasting at restaurants for their meals.

If we compare to Japan, PAP did a far better job. At least our country is not polluted with radioactive waste. PAP also ensured that factories did not dump mercury into the bay.

I don't get your point. Singapore's income tax and corporate tax rates are amongst the lowest in the region and internationally. Our tax rates are so low that many corporations mistake us for a tax haven. I know the Aussies and Indons do complain about it.

The blood suckers are in Europe and USA, where tax rates can go up to 40% of your income, and the government can still run itself into bankruptcy or need to issue bonds yearly to keep itself solvent.
