I hope the two hosts can drill her deep and paintful. She and her teams were very cocky. The executive committee members should, by right, make up of different women of diversified backgrounds, races and religions. Unfortunately we witnessed all of them came from the same church and same idealogy which is not representative of the whole AWARE and Singapore women, she even called in her husband to help. Shit man!!!

if communist news agent (CNA) can allow her to appear on the idiot box, somebody behind her could be the juntas.

afterall, if the gays are not happy, they point at AWARE not PAP.

Gay populace is gaining strength.

Josie's first telly interview with Balji and Debbie Soon:wink:

The new AWARE team already faces an uphill task even before they have begun their term. With so many critics, naysayers, accusations and condemnations of their alleged views on alternative sexual orientations, among others.

Let's hope we can get an inkling of an idea through this interview as well as from the EOGM that's coming on soon, to gain insight into this saga.

Stay tuned!

The interview just ended. What had been revealed? Debra Soon's face said it all. One thing I know. The new AWARE is not just Josie, Maureen Ong is the one you need to pay attention to!

Maureen? was she the one tearing as she spoke? She appears quite emotional. Josie was seen stammering too without any specific and clear agenda moving forward. The reporter Lee Chee Kong was a little sympathetic when he saw the fat woman (maureen?) tearing and choking in her voice.

I like Balji, he really drill in Josie who eventually gave excuses that she was the last available "man" standing and was caught off the hook. I find it very lame that both women claimed they didn't know each other neither the new members who elected them.

From what we saw, the talking point ended with many questions still left unanswered and half answered. Josie wanted more time to come out with new plan but she obviously shun question about her belief and discrimination. I saw fear in her eyes facing the camera.

Debbie and Balji look quite dissappointed that the new AWARE team was not straight forward in answering specific question.

Singapore's interviews are not exactly famous for being hard-hitting. Debra Soon and Balji was hoping to lead on to more in-depth answering by Josie and Maureen, but the first question they asked had already gave them an idea of what Josie's stance was - "We are not at liberty to comment."

Essentially, this interview was a platform for Josie to say 'everything happened so fast', and that she and her new team had no time to react. It's a totally lame excuse coming from a VP of DBS.

One thing for sure, she offended the entire press corps by saying that the press did not give her and the new exco enough room to breathe.

Points of contention:

1) 'Tit-for-tat' retaliation
Indirectly insinuating that the old guard were cheesed, and sore losers.

2) She mentioned something about agenda not being ready, still needs further discussion.
Let's get this straight - you and your gang took over almost all key positions of the AWARE exco, and you all did not have a plan yet? That's like saying you went to battle without knowing what you are fighting for, or you start a business without knowing what your business model is. Be afraid, AWARE, be very afraid.

3) A total rehash of her 'too diversified, consolidate' talk
She mentioned how AWARE is now too diversified, and stresses the need for consolidation, 'like any corporations'. Well, Ms Lau, AWARE is NOT a corporation, and the reason for it being too diversified is simply because women issues ARE diversified. This is an organization that actually addresses issues for more than half of the Singapore's population! She also never gave a definition of what are the 'basic' issues - it could be the art of nappy-changing, for all you know.

4) 'Chance for civil and open dialogue' referring to the EOGM
You do not just grab power and then give chances for a 'civil and open dialogue'. If that dialogue was to take place, it should have been done prior to the election, or during the AGM. Not AFTER everything.

On a side-related note, that woman is definitely not made for TV interviews. She looked shifty, and at certain points during the interview while Maureen is talking, I'm quite sure she rolled her eyes upwards.

Maureen is like the smiling buddha, but we all know those are the most dangerous.

Old AWARE too diversified or she simply want to consolidate her fundamentalist christianity belief? The word consolidate is too deep to understand. Consolidate her power, her belief?, her self-centerness. bring in more of her christian gang from the churh, create a make-belief that Singapore cannot accept certain sector of the populations....etc. Everyone must agree on her disagreement so that it will forever be so because she will always be seen disagreeing with everything of the old guard and for that, alone, the old aware president quitted within a week. Quite telling of the new guard personlity.

The cheek of her to say that the new exco do not know each other. So coincidentally, of all the churches in Singapore, a whole bunch of them attend the same church but yet not know each other's existence and all got voted into AWARE?

Does Ms Josie take us for fools?

Josie's first telly interview with Balji and Debbie Soon:wink:

Seriously,
1. after all the current jump in membership, they estimate their strength at only 600 members
2. usual attendance of 30 - 40 members in past AGMs, to select a 12 member committee

Are they really representing the Women of Singapore?

Josie made a Freudian slip during the interview. When replying to Balji's question about the new AWARE, she blurted out "We are Pro-Family". After an awkward pause and some prompting by Maureen, she suddenly remembered pro-women and pro-SG as well.

I thought it was a lousy interview performance by Josie and fat Maureen. CNA asked very obvious questions that have already been raised by the 154th over the past week but the 2 of them still fumbled and bumbled. The end result is they appear clueless and add weight to Balji's comments that the coup was poorly thought out.

annexa,

video can be found here.

Cthulu,

You are right, that's truly a Freudian slip. It also seems that Maureen is the PR Officer for that interview. By saying Pro-Family, and needed to be prompted to say the rest, it seems AWARE's new priorities are focused on the Pro-Family approach, which supposedly encompasses Christian values the most. That would be the new exco's approach vector if they are indeed as we supposed, a Christian right-wing group.

KKC007,

In terms of branding and public perception, AWARE *is* the leading organization championing women's causes. You don't need to have all 2+ million ladies registered under you to stand for women's rights. Especially in Singapore, a 600-strong membership is a very respectable number for an organization.

Most organizations' AGM and elections are just a formality - the vote getting and PR are done throughout the rest of the year with the other members - they also understand that without the support from the regular members, they can't get things done. Which is exactly why Josie & Co. can stage this putsch, and which is also why they are panicking over the backlash.

What will be truly interesting is to know the membership gains in the recent 2 weeks leading up to the EOGM. The old guard have called for old members, as well as started a recruitment drive - with the intention of outvoting (or at least scaring) the current ExCo.

We might see an influx of Christian women membership in AWARE, as they usually rally to a cause better than say, an atheist female, or a Buddhist female.

The old guard can really only hope that the old members, and the intelligentsia, will come to their aid.
