More importantly, did any opposition witness the voting and counting procedures oversea?

7 vs 19 is negligible but what if the figure was 7k vs 19k ?

Yes.

27 votes from 9 locations = 3 voters avg per location. I am sure, most of the 27 were family or were known to embassy staff or persuaded by staff to turn up. I am sure even if they were keen to vote for WP, there would be a level of appreghension as you could guess who voted for what despite the vote being secret.

San Fransico - Mrs and Mrs Tan and Mr Lee = 2 for PAP, one for WP. Have fun.

Your assumption is that the sample population shares the same characteristics as the rest of the voters in Singapore. Given that the voters need to travel vast distances to vote, the likelihood is that the personnel in the voting locations such as the Embassy/IE Singapore staff would be those who would be voting. This would alter the voting profile dramatically given the propensity of civil servants to toe the government line. Furthermore, the paucity of actually ballots polled means that identification of opposition voter becomes easier. Leading to the safer option of voting in support of the government's candidate.

In that case it is the physical locations of embassies which create the results

The way we operate is that if no one turns up to vote, the person in charge will have to answer. Thus they will actually contact registered Singaporeans to persuade them to come and vote. Overseas based Singaporeans are encouraged to register with the embassy on arrival. Most won't bother. The small minority who do tend to be the kiasu type. So naturally its the kiasu ones that will toe the line.

So it may also be inferred that he called up those who he thought supported the party of his endorsement and those who voted otherwise could be a misjudgment on his part.

The votes are not counted overseas. They were brought back to be counted. Ms Lee Li Lian witnessed the counting process. Not sure if they were counted by embassy or if all the embassy votes were mixed together to be counted.

I share your view. Didn't bother to vote in GE 2011, need to travel to Canberra to vote, 700 km and all. If I did would have voted for opposition.... Many will find it inconvenient to vote, considering those that are further out in Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth and Darwin.

How many overseas singapore citizens are there in 2011? 192,300

How many are eligible to vote? About 132,000 (taking about 2.25 million voters of a population of 3.25 million who are citizens in GE2011 = ~69%)

How many registered overseas voters? 3453

And how many of those voted in GE 2011? 2683

Note: I believe there were only 7 overseas polling stations around the world in GE2011 (Canberra being one of them). Polling cannot be done on-line.

In Fact, in GE2011, none of the overseas polling affected the outcome of the results, even in closely fought Potong Pasir or Joo Chiat.

So the 26 overseas votes of Punggol East should be seen in context..... just an anomaly?

More like it is those who are super kiasu that will register on arrival. And these are the type that will play safe.

So it may also be inferred that he called up those who he thought supported the party of his endorsement and those who voted otherwise could be a misjudgment on his part.

That is why come 2016, die die must fly back to Sinkieland to vote. When the stakes are high the Scums in White will do whatever it takes to stay in power. Also, if you did not vote in a past election, I think you have to explain why before they put you back on the register to be eligible to vote and sure they will not do it on GE2016. They will put some bureaucratic road block when they announce date for GE2016.

My advice if one has not voted in a past election due to being overseas, to regularise and get back on the register of voters in 2015. Then when they announce date for GE2016, simply fly back to SG for vacation and VOTE to kick PAP out. 150,000 is not a small number.

Where do PE voters go to overseas? China? UK? US? Aussie? Or Timbuktu?

Very few overseas S'poreans keep up with news back home. I discovered that when I met with S'poreans returning for vacation over Christmas. Many were clueless about many things.
