Gerard Ee rejects call for curbs on fast cars
blank.gif

By Ethan Lou
MR GERARD Ee, chairman of the Public Transport Council, has rejected calls for tougher restrictions on high-performance sports cars following the fatal three-vehicle collision in Bugis involving a Ferrari.
Instead, he blamed reckless drivers and not fast cars.
“Low-performance cars can also be going at 100kmh and beat the red light,” Mr Ee told my paper last night

In a post on citizen-journalism website Stomp yesterday, a netizen known as “Ban it” proposed that high-performance sports cars be banned on congested Singapore roads.
The netizen wrote: “As a small country, should we accommodate such high-performance cars on our increasingly packed roads?”
The crash occurred at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street – notorious for accidents – and is the seventh in two weeks there. Last Saturday’s incident claimed three lives.
Another netizen known as “ialwayswin” said: “We must petition to ban these cars on packed roads and allow them only on designated roads.”
Mr Ee, however, felt that instituting harsher regulations every time a particular type of car is involved in a fatal crash will only make things worse.
“In the end, nobody will be able to drive,” he said.

The politically incorrect response: "The rich wanna flaunt their wealth. Nothing's stopping you peasants from doing the same. Indeed, many of you have already done so with your purchases of iphones and LV bags."

No lah, restrict it to 2,400 cc since it is light like F1 cars.

Can ask them, "So big an engine, where you wanna go ?"

Re: F1 ? F9 ?

Quite a brainless suggestion. No country in the world would ban a fast car. Just ban Chink drivers :-p

make the punishment fit the crime. Reckless and drunk driving that cause death or injury should be treated as murder or manslaughter with the

commensurate penalties. If you chose to drive when you've had too many drinks or if you intentionally jump traffic lights.....then you should be

prepared for the consequences should an 'accident' occur.

Ex Malaysian PM Mahathir likes to crack jokes about Singapore.

Here is what he says about Ferraris on Singapore roads: "When Singaporeans drive their Ferraris on Singapore roads, one step on the accelerator and they end up in the sea."

So far no Ferraris have flunged into the Marina Bay yet, although one Mercedes drove into the Johor Straits at the end of Lim Chu Kang Road. It's just that in two cases one Ferrari beat the red lights and killed 3 persons, and one beat the zebra-crossing and got hammered by some drunk pedestrians till unconconscious.

While surfing for Mahathir's ribbling about Singapore, I came across some jokes about him instead. These jokes will be posted under a New Thread for those interested in a good laugh for this weekend.

If a F1 driver needs to be trained to handle a F1 car, why then buyers of such cars should not be subjected to such stringent training too?

That's the problem. The govt doesn't want to curb smoking too - money. So, it's all about money. It doesn't matter to them when the 60% is going to vote for them in any way.

They will try to use a temp policy to tide them thru' for now and then the monkey biz will come back again to haunt us once more. GST and road tax are something that they want so much to fuel their greed.

F1 cars and such fast cars are not easy to handle, so they should be restricted to the racing tracks only. The roads and expressways that we are using are not designed perfectly flat for high speed. Now, we know why runways have to be flat.

Once the car reaches close to 300 km/h, it will be safer for it to be airborne ... what I mean is get an aircraft instead.

Another group of drivers who are subjects of frustration are the rich TaiTais who drive big nice cars at snail pace hogging the extreme right lane.
