SINGAPORE - The husband of the woman who fell to her death with her daughter early Friday morning from their Bukit Batok flat last week is a researcher with the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*Star).
Dr Bao Xiaoming who received his doctorate from the prestigious Jiaotong University in Shanghai, has worked for more than seven years at A*Star's Institute for Infocomm Research.
Dr Bao's wife, Madam He Xuejing, 46, and their daughter Peiqin fell 12 storeys from the bedroom window.
The Straits Times reported that Madam He died on impact, but Peiqin struggled for 20 minutes before succumbing to her injuries, according to eyewitnesses.
Dr Bao appeared calm on Saturday morning, when he showed up at the mortuary to identify the bodies, with two colleagues and his elder daughter Peijia, 16.
The family, originally from Shanghai, China, are now Singaporeans. They have no relatives here. He received a late-night visit on Friday from his MP, Madam Halimah Yacob, who offered her condolences and asked if he needed help.
The MP for Jurong GRC told The Sunday Times that the husband was naturally sad but was rather calm, she also added that that Dr Bao was not sure how to make funeral arrangements, but has since been assisted by grassroots leaders.
She continued to add: "This is a tragic case and healing will take some time, but I hope for the best for the family."
The family moved into their newly renovated flat at Bukit Batok Street 24 last December, and Peiqin had attended the nearby Keming Primary School.
Her principal said she was a well-behaved and hard- working pupil.
Dr Bao did not claim the bodies on Saturday, as he is waiting for his relatives from Shanghai and the United States to arrive in Singapore on Monday before holding the wake.
