The problem in SG is not simply that the pap government is bad and the solution is not that the opposition parties and candidates are better.
It really boils down to these 2 things: Value and Values.
We in SG have got used to getting poor value. Take these 2 examples.
The foreigners who come here get to benefit from the infrastucture whilst taking up space. But what you get is not high quality individuals who improve peoples' lives. Instead you get the mid level executive Indian IT guy who does a google search when you go to him with a technical problem. The prc hawker digs his nose and then proceeds to cook you a plate of horrible tasting char kway teow.
Not all the government officials and bureaucrats we have are duds and fools. What they are is grossly overpaid, i.e. poor value-for-money. When did any of them ever come up with an innovative idea or an all-encompassing solution that benefitted everyone? They inevitably state the obvious and if it's not to make the people pay, it's to increase their pay. That's their answer to almost everything.
The values inculcated for a long time have always been to get richer and/or more powerful. Oh yes, try to get these for your family members and relatives and close friends as well. A good decent set of values for a country would be for the country to progress, for every individual to progress and benefit and get to lead a decent life and for citizens to help one another.
Even if one day the opposition take over or there is civil strife within the pap and new guys take over, if the value and values remain poor, nothing will change.
