<p>RESPECTED Toowoomba Aboriginal identity Dick Rose yesterday said the possibility of having the first Aboriginal Prime Minister of Australia could now become a reality after the election of Barack Obama as the President of the United States.
</p>
<p>Mr Rose is a former captain of the Toowoomba Clydesdales and has worked for <a target="_blank" href="http://www.twb.catholic.edu.au/Pages/default.aspx">Catholic Education</a> in Toowoomba for more than 20 years.
</p>
<p>He said the election of Obama would give young Aborigines inspiration to aspire to leadership roles in Australia.
</p>
<p>“It will be a good thing for the world in the sense that people will think '<font color="#ff5656"><b>I don't have to be a white fella to lead people</b></font>',” Mr Rose said.
</p>
<p>“I think Aboriginal people need to get out there amongst those Liberals and Nationals and Labor parties and speak up.
</p>
<p>“That's the way our people can look at having a real voice and representation on the highest levels in this country.
</p>
<p>“I believe we will have an Aboriginal Prime Minister of Australia eventually.”
</p>
<p>University of Southern Queensland international relations lecturer Anna Hayes said the economic policies of the American Democratic Party would most likely benefit Toowoomba.
</p>
<p>“Whether we like it or not, the US economy has a big impact on us,” Dr Hayes said.
</p>
<p>“And historically the Democrats promote policies that are aimed at economic improvement.”
</p>
<p>Barack Obama won the US Presidency in a landslide victory yesterday afternoon.
</p>

Aboriginals should have a chance in getting higher political office, and into society's professional ranks. And thus, I think the current system to link welfare to work, by the Rudd government is a step in the right direction.

The biggest mistake the white settlers made when they first set foot in OZ was not to exterminate the Abos once and for all.

Abos make up 3% of the total population but form 22% of the prison population. I'll let the numbers speak for themselves.

As long as discrimination puts the aboriginals down, they are always gonna stay down. If they don't get access to proper health care and proper, well-funded schools with good teachers, then many will remain either unemployed, or underemployed, or in temporary jobs.

And that will only help increase the crime rate as more aboriginals will become desperate.

Y'know, Obama didn't go to Harvard and Columbia because of affirmative action alone. He also got in because of his talent. And it goes to show that as long as more blacks get access to education and health care, they are more than willing to be as successful as their white and asian counterparts.

Last but not least, I hope you put aside your ideology aside. Its not pretty, and certainly its not helpful. I leave it to other people to judge whether its distasteful or not.

Those freakin Abos are given MORE welfare and assistance than anyone else in Australia. Given the fact that they consume a disproportionate share of the welfare pie, these fuckers should be way ahead of all other communities combined.

However, the problem with the fucking Abos is that if you give them an extra 50 bucks a week of welfare, they'll spend it on booze, drugs and the pokey machines. If ever there was an inferior race on this earth, the Abos have to be it!

Kevin Rudd has already started the ball rolling for welfare reform, linking welfare with work. In a similar initiative to Bill Clinton's landmark reform in 1996, Rudd is also realising that welfare dole without conditions will not help Aboriginals progress.

So he has decided to do the painful thing, and he's started the process in Northern Territory, pushing the state government to implement federal law in regards to welfare reform.

Say it as you like about Kevin Rudd, especially if you had supported Howard/Costello, but its admirable that Rudd and Gillard are doing the unpopular stuff first, instead of just trying to implement every single campaign promise of last year.
