THE body of a woman suffering from depression was found barely a metre away from that of her 15th floor neighbour at the foot of their Bishan St 13 block on Monday.

Administrative assistant Ng Sock Luan, 48, and retiree Lau Fong Kien, 55, who lived on the 11th and 15th floor respectively, were long-time residents of the block but did not know each other.

A member of the public had alerted police at about 11.20am about the two bodies.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene when paramedics arrived shortly later. Some medication and food items were discovered next to Ms Lau's body.

It is believed that they died around the same time.

The two women had very different personalities, relatives told The Straits Times, adding that Madam Ng could have fallen on Ms Lau.

Resident crushed by falling neighbour at apartment

A woman died in a freak accident in Singapore when she was crushed by her neighbour who fell from the building they were both living in, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Lau Fong Kien, 55, was crushed by Ng Sock Luan. The incident happened at a block of Bishan St 13 in Singapore on Monday.

Lau was a breast cancer survivor while Ng had been suffering from depression for two months and was on medication.

Lau’s sister Fong Chu said the victim was on her way back from her medical check-up at a Chinese medical centre.

“Normally, she (Fong Kien) would go back home before 10.30am with takeaway food for our mother.

“However, due to the huge crowd at the medical centre, Fong Kien was delayed.

If she had been early or late by a minute, she would not have been at that spot at that time,” she said.

Ng’s husband Ting Thiam Ho said his wife attempted suicide twice but her condition had improved after she was twice admitted to the hospital for treatments.

“She had stopped talking about committing suicide. I do not understand why this happened,” he said.

Family pays last respects at neighbour’s wake

THE family of the woman who crushed her neighbour to death when she landed on her after falling from a high-rise apartment in Singapore paid their last respects to the latter at her wake, reported China Press.

Ting Thiam Ho, 49, expressed regret over the freak accident on Monday before leading his two children to pray on bended knees at retiree Lau Fong Kien’s wake on Tuesday.

His wife, administrative assistant Ng Sock Luan, 48, had fallen on Lau, 55, who was on her way home from a medical check-up.

Both died on the spot.

They lived in the same block — Ng on the 11th floor and Lau on the 15th floor. Ng had attempted suicide twice before the incident, it was reported.

Lau’s brother Fong Cheng, 51, said they did not harbour any hatred towards Ting’s family.

“This was an accident. No one wanted this to happen,” he was quoted saying.

Lau was a breast cancer survivor while Ng had been suffering from depression.
