Beijing Olympic Games organisers' fears that air pollution would spoil the event have been eased by another day of clear skies over the city.

For much of the week the air quality over the city has been poor, prompting officials announce a raft of new emergency measures if things did not improve.

Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) president John Coates says athletes thought it was wonderful to see clear skies when they woke this morning, though there is some anxiety how long it will last.

"I don't know if it will, it may be an outcome of the rain we've had in the last few days," he said.

"But it can rain all it likes if that's going to be the outcome, it's great."
