1) Don't use a single issue to hijack an agenda.
2) Don't bring religion into it.
3) Build a rainbow coalition. ( I hope you guys know what the rainbow euphemism is

After Teo's and Shanmugam's comments, this must be the clearest message.

Now that Lena Lim has made her stand clear at the tender age of 71, one can correctly determine the lay of the land come this Saturday.

By the way, what happenned to the wife (ex-president) of our once well known social and political activist.

I am afriad the religious nutcases will not get the rainbow coalition euphemism even if Vivian hit them with an iron club.

I suspect you are right. I was actually startled that he put that in and then realised that he intended to send a strong and clear message without "interfering"

Those in the intended camp that catch it with or without the iron club will now see a huge conspiracy forming.

Yes, I have already asked that question before...think I saw her at the Star Awards last night with hubby...apparently got time to socialise but no time to take a position on this issue...curious and strange:confused:

I tell you this COOS group and that pastor of theirs is damn lucky Harry is still not PM...come to think of it, if he were they would not have the cunts or the balls to even attempt such a stunt like this...naturally Josie and her self proclaimed feminist mentor are singing all the correct tunes in public, however action speaks louder than words and you can smell their christian right wing agenda as each day goes by...and treasurer new exco Maureen better becareful because if what TNP reported is correct, she already appears to have crossed the OB marker line by bringing up Syriah Law issues:eek:

I hope to age as well as Lena Lim. She's so elegant, sartorially as well as in turn of mind.

As for ex-president and wife of our once well known social and political activist (BTW, why aren't we mentioning her name?!), I hear she's heading various quasi-government bodies. Dunno which.

I didn't get that about the rainbow coalition! You think it was deliberate, and not a Freudian slip? Perhaps he intended to say that an organisation must relate to various constituences but was thinking about the gay issue, which then interfered with his choice of words? He has been known to make mistakes with his phrasing.

Also, he didn't say not to "use" a single issue to hijack an agenda (which points the finger at the new exco) but not to "let" a single issue hijack an agenda (which I thought was directed at the old AWARE).

Actually, I wasn't very sure of his message. For example, he said religion must not be allowed to be damaged etc. by entering the hurly burly of politics. Is he warning the religious organisations? Or is he telling civil society to be careful not to ruffle the religious wings' feathers? I find the latter message quite depressing.

But still, Ms Vivian has not said a thing whether PAP favors gay rights or not.

Seems to turn the whole saga into a religion issue which is not.

PAP must say something ---gay or no gay marriage.

Ya, was shocked that the new members are going to meddle with Syriah Law after they dealt with sexuality issue. Like I said before, they are going to cross the OB marker if allowed to control AWARE.

Do you even follow the news? PAP has already said NO to gay sex, do you think they will even contemplate gay marriage?

And this is what pisses off PAP, IMHO: that the Thiolibans had their way in the 377a debate was not enough to satisfy their thirst for gay blood.

I saw that report and had shared it with a few others. It was sharp tat the reporter caught her words and saw how she backtracked by saying other stuff to cover her words.

if maureen is saying hwat the intention and feeling is, i suppose those ladies are actually heck abt multi-religious singapore and more concern with their christian agenda without a thought of what a piss-poor PR job they did.

Those in the intended camp that catch it with or without the iron club will now see a huge conspiracy forming.

Do you remember the so called "Marxist Conspiracy" of 1987. I recall how Lee Kuan Yew used the guise of Marxism to send a couple of strong signals and settle some old scores. One of the targets was "Liberation Theology" (Catholic Church). If AWARE doesn't shape up after Sat's EOGM, I think the whole gang will be invited for tea and cookies at MCYS (if they're lucky) or at the Home Affairs Ministry (not so lucky). I'm also expecting another tea session for selected church leaders.

There are 2 issues that stand out (for me) from this AWARE episode:

1. Christian Militancy has gone public. If left unchecked, they will make increasing demands for political space.

2. I am now convinced that the govt took the right course of action with regards to section 377A. I noticed that any mention of homosexuality would bring out the worst anal retentive instincts lurking in many Singaporeans. Singaporeans are not ready to handle this issue in a matured manner. The homosexuals amongst us are best advised to tread carefully and quietly.

You think he dares?knowing well that MM Lee is keen to exploit the creative power of the gays.

What happens after realisingout that MM Lee was the master mind of leegalised gaming dens, what did this righteous, religious(Catholic) guy say,as compared to his infamous remark that guy and gal dancing on bar top would definitly lead to mass murder in Singapore? Now he knows for sure that MM Lee is for gays, except that he screwed himself up by being so righteous and exploit the Asian values to the 66.67% for his whole life.

Change he will,MM Lee,slowly and slowly.

You guys do not know him really.

"Also, he didn't say not to "use" a single issue to hijack an agenda (which points the finger at the new exco) but not to "let" a single issue hijack an agenda (which I thought was directed at the old AWARE). "

He was telling off Josie & Co. for doing the hijacking and reminding OLD AWARE to be more careful about sensitive issues ie. homosexuality (a small reference can snowball very quickly)

"Actually, I wasn't very sure of his message. For example, he said religion must not be allowed to be damaged etc. by entering the hurly burly of politics. Is he warning the religious organisations? Or is he telling civil society to be careful not to ruffle the religious wings' feathers? I find the latter message quite depressing."

Clearly a signal that religion and politics = NO NO

Vivian can be a little too eloquent at times. A chap like Wong Kan Seng would have delivered the message in LKY style.

I think the message was already out there
NO to explicit Gay rights
BUT we'll tolerate it if you guys show some restraint ie. live your lifestyle quietly.

Half Breed failed to grasp that zealot peasants do not care about logic which is why they choose to believe fairy tales in the first place.

Between hedonistic bapok and ugly thio, the latter is a greater evil.

why?

masking her sham logic with questionable 'credentials', this senile irish banshee has decided to hijack a secular organization so that she can preach Thio's Doctrine.

In Thio's sick senile mind, there is only the wrong way and Thio's way.

If Thio has her way, the next organization she will infiltrate is Dragon Boating.

Why?

Dragon boating is a sign of the devil hor, so must be banned, ha ha.
